Does anyone know if the race is going to repeated on RUK at all? I’m gutted that I missed it!
Thanks
October 12, 2010 at 18:41 #322055It’s available to view on their website in the features section
October 12, 2010 at 23:52 #322114Quite frankly, I don’t give a dam about this race, and if it is shown ‘big screen’ ahead of some British race – whether it be a claimer or whatever – I’ll be extremely annoyed.
I think the title of the channel… RUK, should entitle viewers to receive live coverage of UK horse races ahead of anything non UK.

Lots of people did give "a damn" about seeing what is one of the most extraordinary spectacles our sport has to offer. Your loss if you don’t appreciate that.
In the event, we got to see 1/4 of the race in a tiny postcard,
sans
Mark Johnson commentary, because Goodwood couldn’t be bothered to hold up their tin-pot 6F sprint for five minutes until the end of the Czech race.
This narrow insularity and lack of respect of other racing traditions contrasted markedly with the warm applause given by the huge crowd to the English runner in the Pardubicka when he was introduced trackside.
"Little Englander" attitudes were – or so I thought – a thing of the past. I’m sorry they persist.

Still viewable on the RUK website as of yesterday at least, albeit with the cut-away to the Goodwood sprint part-way through still intact.
As Richard Hoiles said in his preamble to the Goodwood race, it’d be churlish to level any accusations of improper race-planning in anyone’s direction on this occasion. BHA’s powers of jurisdiction planing-wise aren’t pan-European – not yet, at least! – and Goodwood had already held back their race generously, only for the Pardudicka to go off uncharacteristically a few minutes after time.

October 13, 2010 at 11:09 #322161OneEye, Pinza – understand the frustrations on both sides, although in the case of OneEye I can’t especially condone the parochialism in which they are couched.
The Goodwood sprint was, I think (I’m happy to stand corrected), their biggest race of the day, and would most likely (again, please confirm if not) have generated rather more liquidity on Betfair et al than the Pardubicka. One of our number on TRF also owned a runner in the race, though I’ll leave him to comment whether or not the sharing of air-time with the Pardubicka especially impaired the enjoyment of the afternoon to any extent.
The timing of the Pardubicka – which as Pinza asserts is a more singular spectacle than anything most, possibly all, British courses, can muster any day of the week – practically on top of the Goodwood sprint was of course very unfortunate, but that’s all it was, rather than the catalyst for any pro- or anti-mainland European coverage rant. The Czech Republic coverage, plus the very good fare at Auteuil and the Goodwood card, made for one of the most enjoyable and diverse afternoons’ watching on RUK for a very long time. More of the same next year, please!

I only mentioned two horses how did they go?

This kind of xenophobic, bigoted nonsense is, in my opinion, one of the main reasons why racing has so much difficulty selling itself outside of its self-imposed, inward-looking ghetto.

Gem,
Hope you get this message before 6PM because RUK have scheduled "Head Girl" (an interview with Criquette Head-Maarek), which was shown earlier which had a reply of the Parbubicka tacked on at the end.
Therefore, if correct the race replay will be repeated about
6.40pm.
October 15, 2010 at 14:41 #322533The old boy got off the hook in more ways than one.

As they passed the winning post, my immediate thought was, objection in order.
The runner – up did object to the winner; and rightly so, in my opinion. The result stood after much deliberation.

October 16, 2010 at 00:42 #322664The interference, such as it was, had the feel of Rough Quest versus Encore En Peu in the ’96 National about it to me – not the worst shout for an objection ever, but at the same time not one you could quite see many stewards giving, rightly or wrongly.
Per Josef Vana’s slowing down, I actually feared the worst for a couple of seconds – the catalogue of previous injuries and health scares that Alistair Down reeled off in Monday’s
Post
was no exaggeration, and having already been poleaxed by heart trouble at Baden-Baden in the past, I wondered if Vana was about to be struck by the throes of a similar seizure.
As it was, I think the truth lies somewhere between mistaking the line and the nosebleed he got sometime in the latter stages of the race – Mark Johnson picked up on him bleeding straight after the finish. Vana jocks himself on for just penny numbers of rides nowadays, yet still loves to win the Pardubicka almost more than life itself, so I don’t think there’s much question of him having showboated close home, mindful of the fact that any ride in the race nowadays could quite feasibly turn out to be his last.
