Jesus H Christ! Can no one see what is happening here?

For those who haven’t yet realised, you are being seduced and inveigled into joining a private website so that they may take advantage of the real racing brains their forum is so sadly lacking.
It isn’t the first time they’ve done it either, usually to the detriment of the forum they are parasiting upon.
Hensman was kicked off the Gummy website for doing exactly the same thing quite a while ago, since which he and his colleauges (Of whom more than a few have conveniently appeared as ‘new members’ on this thread ) have set up, and seen atrophy, at least half-a-dozen private VDW forums, all the while running their recruitment drives on any forum that would tolerate them.
Does that really appeal as the kind of operation that has found the ‘Holy Grail’, or does it tell you what they really are – a sad bunch of losers prepared to go to any lengths to recruit anyone who can enlighten them? :x

    Reet Hard

As I explained to Cormack, the website I referred to in an earlier post was a free one giving details of some of the VDW basics – having seen some posts on the systems thread and visited Formath’s site, I can tell you it was his. "Jackform" was the name I could not, at the time of the earlier post, recall.

As to being thrown off the Gummy forum, that is completely untrue, as Cormack is very welcome to check, on a proprietor-to-proprietor basis, with Gummy.

I hope you feel better in the morning.

If anyone has been the victim of seduction could they please post up the offending invitation.

If not, could someone at least reassure Reet Hard that if there was any juicy seduction taking place his fine racing brain would not be forgotten as it would be a valuable asset to any prospective conclave due to its apparently pristine condition. :)

If I ever join a private service hang me, more so if I join one about a coded one that no one understands!

I’ve moved this thread here for a couple of reasons. First, this is where it belongs as it is primarily a discussion on Systems (oops, sorry, METHODS). Secondly it was clogging up the main forum and, now that it has run out of steam having been around the houses several times, people (judging by complaints made to me) are simply fed up of the sight of it. Those interested will be still able to contribute in here.

Reet – If I see any links appear to other sites and/or commercial ‘offerings’ then I’ll act quickly. Also if any forum members are subject to any unsolicited approach by email or private message then please let me know and I will sort it out.

In the meantime I am happy to let the debate continue.

But have you killed it stone dead, or will it struggle free?

And most of us in this section have been gelded

Some people have really got the wrong message here.

Why would anyone complain about a thread on a forum, as if they think it is rubbish they can just ignore it????? Surely no one HAS to read it. I go on a few forums and there are a few topics/threads that are complete and utter rubbish, but everyone to their own and I just do not read them.

As for a recruitment drive I fail to see that one at all!

I think it was de Toqueville who mentioned the danger to a society when it buys peace at the expense of logic.

    Not your finest moment Cormack.

On the one hand you got people comparing this thread to a secret society like the Freemasons then you’ve got people saying its like the Jehovahs Witnesses trying to convert people. Can’t both be right.I don’t think any one is trying to get any one into VDW that would only drive the prices down if to many people started backing the same horses and I’m sure Mtoto and Hensman don’t want that.

    Snobbery is the main reason.

lol- No, I’m I don’t mind the odd war or two, in the right place at the right time.

However this is clearly a thread discussing systems and this is the appropriate place for it. I’ve posted a message on the main forum alerting those who are following it where to find it.

I don’t see the problem with moving it??

    Cormack,

There would be less problem with having moved the thread if I was convinced that you did so motivated by taxonomical zeal.

However the pejorative use of the term ‘clogging up’ suggests that you have been less than impartial in your action and that you feel that your position as moderator is best served by bowing to the howling mob.

In the first chapter of his booklet "The Judgement of Form", Marvex addressed essentially the point you raise, and you may be interested in his answer:

"The first reaction on picking up this little book is the obvious one. "If this man has got something good he would keep it to himself and make his fortune. The fact that he is willing to tell everyone shows it is no good."

The answer to that is that although I am sharing secrets with all and sundry there is not one in a hundred who could do what I am doing even in possession of all my facts and figures.

This is a whole-time job and unless one can give to it the same time and care I do one would simply be floundering in a morass of figures. On an average I devote between 70 and 80 hours a week to the job, in addition I have a certain amount of assistance on the clerical side, say a total of 150 hours in all. No, I do not worry too much about lifting the curtain aside and giving you a glimpse at what I am doing.

Another consideration is the need for quickness and accuracy in the calculation of the figures. I am an accountant by profession and figures come naturally to me; how I should get on if I were slow I cannot imagine."

That was written in 1950, before computers took away much of the burden of what he termed "the clerical side".

I have no idea how VDW would have answered the same question, but Marvex’s answer seems to me to be equally applicable to VDW – or indeed any serious attempt to understand why horses win and how to identify those that are likely to before the "off".
