Begins Thursday….
Who dya fancy? I’m backing Tiger (7/1) and Lee Westwood (12/1)
mainly because I back the two of them religiously in each and
every tournament but feel that Westwood is going
to grab a major eventually and you never know with
Woods, anything is possible
What dya think
June 14, 2010 at 19:10 #300570I generally like to take a look at those that did well in the corresponding tournament the previous year … quite often players will come back that have played the course well before and repeat their form.
As much as I’m convinced that Adam Scott will one day win a major (and I’ve backed him blindly to do so on many an occasion) I’ve left him out of this one … my three ew against the field are as follows …
Hunter Mahan @ 50/1
Sean O’Hair @ 66/1
Ricky Barnes @ 80/1June 14, 2010 at 19:17 #300572I generally like to take a look at those that did well in the corresponding tournament the previous year … quite often players will come back that have played the course well before and repeat their form.

Ricky Barnes @ 80/1Yeah all three of those guys have been in good form on the us tour, my theory against them is thar generally a "name" wins the majors, no harm e/w those three though.
I had Westwood last night, pleased.
June 16, 2010 at 21:24 #301284Ladbrokes went 10/1 Tiger for a couple of hours this morning,
for me that was far too big to resist, therefore, dived in.Ok, he may not be anywhere near his old self but if he hits form, he
could definitely go very close. Going to back Westwood aswell, 14/1 (enhanced Win price) with SJ.Can’t wait….

But they haven’t played this course for ten years now

They play another event (the AT&T National Pro Am) at Pebble Beach yearly, but the course is set up in a completely different way to how it will be set up for this week’s US Open, and as I say, the US Open hasn’t been staged here for ten years now.
The last time it was staged here Tiger won by 15 shots, but even though he has this course down as one of his favourites I simply couldn’t back him given his form (and personal problems) this season.
I’m taking on Tiger and Phil which then makes the event wide open. I hope Westwood wins but at the odds he’s too short for me. So my money is on Graeme McDowell, Bo Van Pelt and Steven Ames. All three are just hunch calls really, though I’d also love Rhys Davies to do well as he is a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend and I’ve said hello to him a few times

Rhys Davies is some talent, I watch lots of the European tour and he’s the best putter amongst the golfers on it. I’m a little surprised that he managed to get a place in the US Open though? Not sure how the field are selected?
June 17, 2010 at 10:51 #301433Matthew, they hold US Open qualification heats in this country, as they do in the US for our Open.
The day after the BMW PGA Championship (about a month ago now) Rhys Davies qualified by finishing in the first five at Walton Heath (they play 36 holes in one day). The winner of the BMW, Simon Khan, failed to qualify but was made first reserve and fortunately for him someone pulled so he has also made the field.
Thankfully for Rhys he is now in the world’s top 50 (official world rankings) and as long as he stays there he will never have to pre-qualify for a major or World Golf Championship again. I can’t see him dropping out of the top 50 in the near future, in fact I can only see him climbing higher.
Like you say, he is a fantastic putter, I’d go as saying sensational in fact, the best I’ve seen for a long time.
I’ve backed Rhys at 4/1 to make the Ryder Cup team so no matter where he plays I’m always supporting him. I just hope he continues to play well to either get in the side automatically, or impress Monty enough to get a pick.
Good luck with your selection this week.

That 4/1 about Rhys is a massive price, I’d like
to see him go instead of someone like Sergio.June 17, 2010 at 13:44 #301486And u matey.

to see him go instead of someone like Sergio.Yes it’s massive now because he is best priced 4/9 or thereabouts I think. I place the bet in February.
Unless Sergio’s form picks up considerably in the next two months then I don’t see how he can possible make the team. He won’t get in automatically, and if Monty makes him one of his picks then he needs his head testing. I’ve never seen Sergio play so poorly, he is all over the place. Shame really.

I know mate, I was surprised at this also; I can’t remember it being this late ten years ago. Somehow, California appears to have lost three or four hours on the world clock; we are now 8 hours in front of them

Literally every single person is watching the World Cup, so NBC didn’t want to conflict too much with the ABC broadcast.

Aaaaah.
Mickelson can’t have started well, drifted to 16s (SJ)
June 17, 2010 at 21:33 #301612Tiger into 100/30 after only 3 holes, COME ON!
June 20, 2010 at 01:04 #302144Up watching it now, Tiger! Pure class…
Dropped two shots in the first three holes then afterwards the round was sublime! Back to his best, come on Tiger!!!

2/1f in running….
June 20, 2010 at 22:46 #302364Woods clueless today.
Terrible playing all over the shop and the field coming back to him and even still he cant muster anything.
Poor Dustin Johnston though…..yikes +6 for the day
June 20, 2010 at 22:56 #302366He’s having a mare isn’t he (Johnson that is)?
All good for my 80/1 ticket on McDowell (mentioned pre-tournament), only wish I’d backed him on Betfair so that I could lay some off – he’s into 1.7 as I write after Els makes a mess of the 10th.
McDowell should have a three or four shot lead in about two minutes, but over this course I’m still not confident. Good luck Graeme, do it for yourself and me
