Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 16, 2013 at 17:33 #436436That is amazing! Even more so when seeing the head on and realising he actually went around the stalls!!!!
April 16, 2013 at 17:51 #436438Several blatant attempts by the jockey to escape the view of the patrol camera lens. Is it any wonder racing gets a bad name when you get antics like this.
April 16, 2013 at 18:12 #436440It looks like Spicer Cub was spooked by a reflection in a puddle at the 5/16 pole and then the shadow of the grandstand at the 3/16. He had never bolted like that in any of his previous starts. However, it was his first race at old Hilltop. Charles Town and Laurel Park don’t have a huge tall grandstand. This is the last race of the day, so late afternoon when shadows are biggest. Since horses work in the mornings, Spicer Cub had probably never seen a big monster shadow like that on a racecourse.
Maybe he needs Whirlaway blinkers (open left eye, 3/4 cup right eye – named after the infamous outside rail-runner who wore them). I don’t think a simple shadow roll would help much.
Excellent job by Xavier in riding to win even after losing his stirrups. Neither horse nor jockey were worse for wear. They’ll be overbet in their next race for sure, though.

You’re kidding, right? Xavier Perez is an honest jockey and has never pulled any tricks. This isn’t the first time a racehorse has done this, either.
