I’m not taking it easy HDLG.
Hendo and Nico have become terrible for the sport and I stand by that.
These guys have done nothing but cause controversy this past 3 years. That’s too long a period for it to be a coincidence.
Nico has been finished as a top jockey for quite a while and his arrogance only makes matters worse.
He did the same thing on the young French horse yesterday that he regularly does on Constitution Hill.
He confused the horse going into the 2nd last, it completely guessed and only made it over by millimeters.
January 24, 2026 at 15:38 #1751640It’s a pelvic, but no lower limb injury. Hope they can save him.
January 24, 2026 at 15:40 #1751642Pelvic injuries can be extremely dangerous for months. Fondmort once fractured his also.
Poor horse should be retired even if he makes a full recovery.
January 24, 2026 at 15:40 #1751643There was no pace and he was likely on the fastest horse , let’s remember Gino didn’t hurdle well last time , as Skelton did today it’s about winning with the least amount of effort , poss teach him as well , I’m no Nico can but you can’t blame him for that
January 24, 2026 at 15:41 #1751644I would be suprised if he wasnt
January 24, 2026 at 15:54 #1751654No blame on Nico for what happened – it was a case of the two jockeys playing silly buggers with each other, Harry had more need to get a lead than Nico did given what happened at Newcastle but also I can understand that Nico was not wanting to let SG stride on a give Harry a lead/target to aim at.
Hindsight is a great thing but had Nico let SG stride on at a more sensible gallop and thus let Harry stalk him, that stronger pace would have suited TNL because he stays further and tactically needs a proper gallop at 2m rather than a slow/sprint race.
Given the way the race panned out Nico would have had too much speed for TNL who still got caught flat footed after the last by two inferior horses and only at the line as his stamina kicked in was he drawing away from the other two.
There is also no evidence to presume that had Nico simply got on with the job instead that the injury wouldn’t have happened, he could have still met a hurdle wrong and still made the same mistake that caused the injury.
It is just an extremely unfortunate accident that you can’t legislate for.
January 24, 2026 at 16:14 #1751661Hendersons overall handling of Sir Gino has been appalling.
: Supposed to begin novice chasing last season after impressing in schooling
: Beats CH in a gallop and then with the uncertainty surrounding that horse, gets switched back hurdling
: Wins Fighting Fifth
: CH begins working better at home so Sir Gino gets switched back to chasing just one month after winning Fighting Fifth
: Wins debut chase in absolutely stunning fashion jumping fences better than he ever jumped a hurdle.
: New Arkle Fav.
: Gets leg infection: Begins this season as fav for Queen Mother Champion Chase
: Constitution Hill Falls in Fighting Fifth
: Sir Gino once again rerouted back to Hurdles
: Wins Christmas Hurdle easily but hurdling far from perfect as always
: Breaks pelvis in next hurdle outingJanuary 24, 2026 at 16:21 #1751665I agree he’s been badly managed , I wanted to see him in the Champion Chase however what happened today was a freak accident
January 24, 2026 at 16:29 #1751674While the injury was just unfortunate, he wasn’t fluent at the previous hurdle and then dived a bit at the one he got the injury on landing.
That I blame connections for. His jumping wasn’t great last time and today, going off at a crawl out the back was the worst thing they could do.
I said before the race that if they did that, there was a huge chance of him diving at one.Pure arrogance from Nico just messing about as he knows the Skelton Horse really wants to be coming from behind. Having been through crisis after crisis this past few seasons including making a complete balls up in this race last year, Nico was the last person that needed to be getting cocky today.
Henderson said during the week that the horse was more than fine to make his own running.
Overall, sending him back hurdling was just a horrible decision full stop.
January 24, 2026 at 16:39 #1751684Just watched replay, and whilst i just cant blame Nico for the injury, what were they thinking. The horse looked uncomfortable throughout. He just wanted to get on with his job and run.
I get tactics, have a go at new lion after last, but you dont need to restrain the quickest horse in training down to a doddle. Was an awful watch even before he pulled up.
Theres a couple of times before the injury he looks a little unbalanced, not like him at all.
Just hope he firstly makes a full recovery. Anything else is a bonus.
January 24, 2026 at 16:49 #1751690“whilst i just cant blame Nico for the injury, what were they thinking. The horse looked uncomfortable throughout. He just wanted to get on with his job and run.”
Maybe his pelvis was starting to go from the off. Remember Douvan running and jumping abysmally in the QMCC and having a fractured pelvis.
January 24, 2026 at 16:56 #1751695The lesson is stop making squares fit round holes , I’ll be honest I really wonder if Henderson is near the end , he’s been unlucky in some ways but his decision making over the last few years has been awful , he’s nothing to prove , he doesn’t even look like he enjoys it now …
January 24, 2026 at 16:59 #1751698The quicker he retires, the better HDLG.
He’s been a great trainer and I always liked him but his poor decision making plus the endless interviews and overhyping this past few seasons have left a sour taste in the mouth. He’s bad for the sport now imo.
January 24, 2026 at 17:08 #1751707Some of Henderson’s management is questionable and his interviews are often at odds with his actions; drama does seem to arise with his yard more than any other
However.- Sir Gino is a brilliant horse over hurdles or fences and has an owner with a multitude of options for similar races, so in this specific case I can see nothing untoward that might have caused today’s horrible incident
I don’t care if Sir Gino races again but I care very much about him returning to his yard and groom. Fondmort suffered a pelvic injured which caused life threatening complications elsewhere and they saved him.
( If you’re blaming the injury on the horse being held up then you should quit the sport now )
January 24, 2026 at 17:24 #1751716Greenasgrass, Douvan in cc is exactly the right comparison.
Lets hope for similar outcome
January 24, 2026 at 18:01 #1751728“It hit the 3rd from home with it’s hind legs and got the catastrophic injury…..”
I’ve just watched the replay (not on Racing TV’s YouTube feed, as they edited out the incident for some unknown reason, but on sporting life.com), and Sir Gino didn’t touch the hurdle.
January 24, 2026 at 18:10 #1751733When I watched the race I was quite sure that both hind legs touched the top of the hurdle as he was a bit long at that obstacle.
