Racing Post ground update…
The going is now soft all over on the New course, with the track drying back from soft, heavy in places yesterday.January 24, 2026 at 07:59 #1751445Bang New Lion out , let’s see what Gino has when he comes off the bridle , big day for Nicky , let’s hope he doesn’t bottle out
January 24, 2026 at 08:19 #1751452I am very surprised Sir Gino is declared. I didn’t think Henderson would want to run him when giving away a penalty. Although I suppose there is still time to take him out, with the state of the ground a ready made excuse.
January 24, 2026 at 08:25 #1751455There’s still time to enter him in the Southwell shitshow…

I’d say he’s feeling quite confident the horse will take care of business.
January 24, 2026 at 08:40 #1751461Shame he didn’t have the confidence to put him over fences … I’ll be honest I hope he gets tucked up and Henderson is left looking a fool
January 24, 2026 at 08:41 #1751462I think your general antipathy towards Henderson has been registered by everyone on this forum, HDLG.

If he runs, I think he will win. I just didn’t expect to see him here.
January 24, 2026 at 09:02 #1751477Blame Henderson for that
January 24, 2026 at 09:37 #1751499Does Henderson feel under any sort of obligation to have a runner in this race? It was a surprise when he ran Constitution Hill last year.

I very much doubt it. Unibet wouldn’t put horses’ wellbeing at risk and i don’t feel they would tell Henderson what to do with his horses, he knows more about the game than them.
January 24, 2026 at 10:47 #1751503Maybe Hendo’s secretary has run out of paper so she can’t print it on the type writer which in turn means she can’t take a photo, upload it onto her computer and put it on twitter…

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
January 24, 2026 at 12:24 #1751530Played Lion with winning distances and some accas today

I think there’s zero chance of Skelton banging The New Lion out in front today. He didn’t like being left in front at all last time.
I think they should’ve had a pacemaker in this for him.Sir Gino will most likely make the running and it’s up to Nico what fractions he sets. A slow pace won’t suit Skeltons horse but then again, a slow pace could make Sir Gino guess at one.
Best thing Skelton can do is sit on Sir Ginos wing and try to force the pace.
The other 2 will probably use this as very well paid public schooling lol.
January 24, 2026 at 12:43 #1751541You might be right but he beats him by getting him of the bridle , if there both off the bridle up that hill then there’s only 1 winner , Gino maybe the better horse but I’m getting a bigger price on the horse with the better form in the book
January 24, 2026 at 14:53 #1751588Sir Gino to beat Nemean Lion is my only bet. I hope this turns out to be more of a “trial” than the Cotswold.
January 24, 2026 at 15:06 #1751592Oh dear… That’s really bad.
