As discussed elsewhere on this forum it’s rarely the surface that dominates the decision making process in snow cancelled race meets, it’s also the safety of the journeying horses and punters. If it snows and settles between Friday afternoon and Saturday am I can’t see any way the meet goes ahead sadly.
February 6, 2009 at 03:08 #208392Marvellous – another morning snowed in, with a hike across fields and up and down hills for a few miles to feed the ‘oss!
As you say, the forecast until recently on the MET office site was for sleet, now heavy snow.
February 6, 2009 at 03:13 #208395Lets hope theyre wrong with the snow and it misses Newbury completely!
Such a great meeting in prospect
February 6, 2009 at 09:19 #208431I hope they don’t make a premature decision at 8am. The snow is meant to be followed by sleet.
February 6, 2009 at 13:35 #208440Meeting abandoned. It never really stood a chance.
February 6, 2009 at 14:57 #208449Can somebody help me a minute please.
Newbury,Kempton,Bangor,Warwick are all in doubt for the weekend meetings.
Today they raced at Taunton.
Why not move the major races from Warwick and Newbury to Taunton for a Somerset Super Saturday?
Good idea Neil but Taunton had heavy snow throughout last night and is still going this morning, but if they omit all the fences I’m sure Denman could bull dose his way through the snow.

February 6, 2009 at 15:22 #208450Will Bob’s Competitions be abandoned this weekend, do you think?
February 6, 2009 at 15:31 #208452Doubt it Ken.
Even if there’s only one AWT meet on it’ll be enough to ensure the comp runs.
February 6, 2009 at 15:56 #208458Excellent work by the irish authorities once again with the fast/smooth rescheduling of their top class Hennessy card –
February 6, 2009 at 16:18 #208460AON Chase now rescheduled for Kempton on Saturday – assuming it beats the weather.
February 6, 2009 at 16:18 #208461Looks like Kempton will try to race again tomorrow.
Also an additional race, replacing the Aon, is on the card – with Denman possibly running.
February 6, 2009 at 16:37 #208463Excellent news and seeing Denman at Kempton will be fascinating – if he hacks up would they then consider the King George in the future? Obviously it’s all about getting the great horse back on track/proving his wellbeing though so really hope it gets the go-ahead.
Would love them to have switched the Game Spirit as well as Denman/Master Minded would surely have packed the crowds in but you can’t have it all
February 6, 2009 at 16:53 #208466I can’t agree on the re-scheduling of the Leopardstown card to next Sunday, at the expense of one of Navan’s best racing days on the calendar. 3 x Gr2’s pushed out to a working Monday is not a good idea. I’d be pretty pissed off if I was a member of Navan racecourse.
February 6, 2009 at 19:59 #208495Would be fascinating to see how Denman acts round Kempton.
Not ideal for the big horse, but I’m sure he’ll be fine. He has won three times on right-handed courses before.

Do the two courses not work together anyway – I notice they sell a joint Fairyhouse / Navan membership.
