Right, so I’m new to this horsey business and I’ve been looking at a lot of some of the recent AW racing and for the life of me I can’t get my head around the starting stalls, where they’re positioned on the course and what this means for the horse’s chances of winning. I’ve got a chart showing the profitable starting stalls for backing and laying in courses in Britain but without knowing how to apply them to a race, they’re not much good. What does H2 or L1 mean? Depending on where the stalls are do you count up or down? What does this mean if the course is right-handed as oppose to the more common left-handed ones? Did the way the stalls are numbered not change at the start of this season? I have the charts in front of me if anyone is kind enough to apply them to a certain race.
