    Hi,

I will be using this thread to post some of my 2 year old studies.

    * disclaimer *

All studies are wrote before there first race.

    Anglezarke

    Trainer – Tim Easterby
    Sex – Filly
    Colour – Brown
    Cost – 38,000 Guineas

    Sire: Acclamation

A classy 2 year old over 5 furlongs who went from cosily winning a maiden at Sandown to showing his real potential by winning the St Leger by 2 lengths beating the likes of Ho Choi and Captain Rio. An interrupted season in 2002 which would see Acclamation running over 6 furlongs. His first run as a 3 year old was a Group 2 affair at Ascot in October and ran a great race from stall 10 to only fade in the final 100yards and was to be seen coffin so there was more to come. Dropped into listed company no less than a month later at Newmarket in which he came 3rd when yet again finding little in the last couple of yards but showed his grit and determination and only better things around the corner as a 4yo. The 2003 season was about putting that potential in an end product. He started by running over 5 furlongs in group 2 company and finished 3 lengths behind Airwave and was founding wanting when one paced in the final furlong he was to come on for that run when at Ascot. Acclamation came and unlucky 2nd when slowly away and running on strongly but the gaps never really opened in time and allot of people had written off the horse at this point and the reports looked true went it finished tamely at Newmarket next time out finishing 11th a good 9 lengths behind Oasis Dream who he had beaten by a good length last time out and things looked to be going backward. The horse picked up an infection since the July Cup and was entered in a conditions race in July at Ascot over 6 furlongs and went off at 4-6 favourite in which he was slowly away but showed the grit to get the win. He went onto the Nunthorpe Stakes in which he ran credibly after yet another slow start to stay on gamely to finish only 3 lengths behind a horse who had beaten him by 9 a month ago. A month later came a win at Goodwood in a Listed event over 6 furlongs and if a horse ever over due to win class 1 this was it and things got even better for the owner and trainer when the horse picked up a the Diadem Stakes at Ascot in which the horse put everything together that day and showed the critics that he is a excellent horse and ending his career off on a high by 2 very good efforts in Group1 company at Longchamp and Hong Kong. What I liked about this horse is that he would always put in a bold effort in whatever company he was in and had that drive to succeed which was let down sometimes by being slow away but showed that heart because he was rarely ever beat by 2 lengths. Acclamations first 2 year olds were out and ready for 2007 and he didn’t let anyone down. The leading sire of 2year olds for 2007 was Acclamation earning over £1,000,000 in prize money with the likes of Dark Angel, Hitchens and Exclamation being produced. There’s been one 2 year old from Acclamation this season in Dougnut who showed those battling qualities at Folkstone to get the better of the Riflessione by a short head who had previously run well in the Brocklesby. Allot of last year’s successful 2 year olds dam had already produced a decent crop of horses but had a speedy sire from the USA and I’ll be taking that into account with Anglezarke here.

    Dam Welsh Mist

a decent sprinter herself winning a class 3 conditions stake at the end of her 2 year old campaign. Went on to win a class 1 listed stake at York in which was reported she stayed on gamely like Acclamation himself but things dried out from there on the winning front in which she went 2 years without a win but up until her last race she showed that class 1 races weren’t out of her reach although she never looked like winning a performance wasn’t amiss. Her sire Damista probably hasn’t produced much in 20 years but his sire Mr Prospector maintained a 25% win rate over 20 years with his 2 year olds and a 26% win rate with sprinters both accumulating in the millions which for me is a solid sign of speedy breeding down the line which you come to expect from the US horses. Welsh Mist herself has produced some nice 2 year old sprinters such as Soyuz and Early Morning Mist who won class 4 maidens but went on to get further in time but 4 of the horses foaled by Welsh Mist are in double figures with prize money and rated in the 90’s.

    Masamah

    Trainer – Edd Dunlop
    Sex – Colt
    Colour – Grey
    Cost – 60,000 Guineas

Exceed and Excel A mighty fine sprinter who was one of Danehill’s fastest ever sons becoming a recording breaking multiple Group 1 sprinter who would make a move from half way and with a rapid turn of foot and make all. First two 2yo’s in Australia win listed races on their debut and alot is to be expected from this sire. Bethesda From a family of sprinters who go well at 2 that are held in high regard by being entered in big races early on in their career, they look go best on good to firm ground. A half sister to most notably Fard who landed the Middle Park Stakes as a 2yo at Newmarket and not the worst sprinter herself running well in Chevley Park Stakes at Newmarket as a 2yo but went off the radar as a 3yo until recording her first win at the age of 4 in first time blinkers and followed up that success with another win in class 4 handicap company by 5 lengths in which both wins coming in big fields wearing blinkers and on firm ground. Looking at the sire of Bethsesda Distant Relative there’s a solid stat that stands out, 15% win rate with his 2yo is a firm stat to keep going over a long period of time. Interesting Masamah goes in blinkers today , the first dam bred with Exceed and Excel to have any real sprinting background but I am tempted to not have such a big bet with the lack of track experience and a good field but hopefully Masmah can make all today with 60% of Dunlop’s horses running to form in last 14 days its a good thing.

    Desire To Excel

    Trainer – Paul Cole
    Sex – Colt
    Colour – Black
    Cost – 150,000 Guineas

Sired by Desert Style who was a smart two year old recording 2 wins over 6f before running well in Group 1 and Group 3 over a longer distance at the end of his 2yo campaign. At 3 Desert Style won three Group 3 races over 6/7 f all coming on good ground in Ireland although not the best Group races around he showed what a class animal it was by finishing second in a Group 2 over at Hong Kong only losing by short head. Desert Style is more then capeable of producing a nice 2 year old who will progress well and one thing for sure is that they come on for a run. I think you get a rough idea of how good a Desert Style horse they are by what the trainer gets them enterd in and Desire To Excels first run at Newmarket wasn’t such a bad debut. I think you’ll get the best out of Desert Style with a dam who’s from a family of good progressive middle distance horse and the dam Sanpala was out of a very succesful family her self with being a half sister to Danefair and carrying those high class genes down the line with Silver Touch a smart 6/7f horse. I really do think that this is a nice horse, the speed of Desert Style and the class an track expierance will get this horse home over the 5 today but im not sure the horse will be running this distance in the future.

    Excellent Show

    Trainer – Bryan Smart
    Sex – Filly
    Colour – Chesnutt
    Cost – 96,000 Guineas
    Sire – Exceed and Excel
    Dam- Quiz Show

Excellent Show looks to be a nice sort on pedigree sired by an excellent sprinter in Exceed and Excel who is showing signs of his stud promise siring a couple winners so far on these shores with the likes of Masamah and Spin Cycle. When we take a look at the dam Quiz Show her mother was only raced 3 times but her father was a classy 2yo who has sired numerous amounts of classy sprinters at 2 and 3 such as First Trump and Primo Valentine for example. Quiz Show wasn’t a spectacular horse herself and took 9 runs to record her first win as a 3yo in a maiden at Newbury but never went on from there finishing her career off 8 runs later in a listed event. What interests me is that she was a half sister to a fantastic sprinter and multiple group winners called Mind Games whose father was also a group winning sprinter in Ireland. Quiz Show has produced some nice 2yo sprinters herself in Right Answer and Twenty Questions who both have fathers that were classy group winners over 5/6 and have no hesitation in suggesting that what once started from a family producing middle distance horses has slowly become more successful in sprinting. The better sprinters have all been female and I am sure that’s something connected with Mind Games and Quiz Show defiantly has carried some of the quality genes from Mind Games and I think if you can really pair her with a classy sprinter threes every chance of producing a nice sort and what better to pair her with Exceed and Excel one of the best sprinters Australia has seen in 21s century.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Desire To Excel out tomorow in the first at Folkstone (2.30). Needs further and running over 7 today after pulling muscles in his hind quaters last time out he could go well after a rest.
