Sadly, yet in an entertainingly appropriate manner, the first runner for Bez’s Racing Club – Magic Moonshadow – petulantly refused to enter the stalls at Redcar this afternoon.

The former maracas-toting Happy Mondays crooner will hopefully be pretty ‘relaxed’ about the affair. He normally is. They’re gonna take away your promised land and all that malarkey…

The news that Bez has his own racing club had passed me by until this post, but there’s something very cheering about this incongruous development. Having their first runner on a Monday allowed the news headlines to write themselves whichever way things went.

Not many folk give old Bez too much credit, but I think Mike has here describing the man as a “crooner”. I believe his requisite skills in the Mondays were limitied to dancing whilst wielding the maracas, and consuming Class A substances with Ryder.

Would love Bez to have one with Daddy & Thaddy, purely so I could imagine the pre-race planning meetings and phone calls.

I can confirm the above as I give “Bez” no credit whatsoever for anything.

I wasn’t interested in either his music or the prevailing culture at the time attached to it, and I am not interested in his racing club.

Alice Cooper ended up playing celebrity golf, Bez is heading for a trilby, today’s gangsta rappers are no doubt tomorrow’s Classic-winning owners!

    Ok, maybe not.

Whatever you think of Bez or his music, I reckon he’d be a lively addition to the “Social Stable” on ITV Racing!

Definitely Tonge! And would Cumani be up for a date with Bez? She sure would! Call the cops!

Nice little follow-up article in The Graun (who, as Marlinford predicted, go with “Unhappy Monday”) which also informs us that any of the horse’s winnings will be going to Coffee 4 Craig a Manchester-based homeless charity.

Yes I read the same in the RP Mike, who plumped for “Not a Happy Monday for Bez” as their headline. Sounds a great cause, I hope it is genuine. Bez doesn’t seem likely to be the most difficult fella to manipulate. I am sure that is just my cynicism showing. Good luck to them.

Some might say the best addition to The Social Stable would be a couple of P45s and using the saved air time to cover races at another meeting – I couldn’t possibly comment!

    Or perhaps I just did.

At least Bez’s horse went into the stalls today. And ran well for a long way before getting tired in the final furlong. Looks like she will be up to winning a race, maybe on better ground.

Alice Cooper plays pro-celebrity golf, Bez has a racing club, only a matter of time before John Lydon becomes Pope.

The rebels all join the establishment in the end – usually once the price is right.

Thats perfectly true, unfortunately. Johnny Rotten advertising butter is a fine example.

John Lydon was never really a rebel. The Johnny Rotten character he created with Malcolm McLaren was a clever act, which challenged the Establishment but also satirised self-conscious rebels. Such people are usually quite conservative and only play at being rebels.

Excellent, pleased to see Mystic Moonshadow showed some promise.

Expect her to win when she’s next entered up on a Monday!
