    Then why speculate?

Why not just ask if anyone knows what happened?

Absolutely no need to mention anything else. It puts doubt in to people’s minds about whether connections had the interests of the horse at heart. Witness Phil’s comment.

Unless people know the truth why speculate?

This must be very distressing to the owners. That some people are spreading it around that it was not neccessary, is heaping yet more distress on them.

    Sorry Ginge.

My second post was made as yours was and I of course after reading what you said happened know it was the right thing to do, my sypathy to everyone involved with the horse, it’s always hard.

What is heartbreaking is that he didn’t want to race; I know he was a quirky character but his epitaph will read ‘I told you I didn’t want to do it’. Another name that, seeing it on this thread unexpectedly, makes my stomach sink when I see it. RIP Twist Magic; thanks for the memories.

    Twist Magic

stood out for me,for not only being a fine looking horse who jumped well on the whole and travelled like a dream but he had a larger than life character that always had you thinking which side of it will we see today,he was different! My fav moment was undoubtedly the 07 Tingle Creek where he beat Voy Por Ustedes, what stood out was the fact he opened 7/2 on the Tuesday before the race,Voy Por was a solid Even money fav, come Saturday and Paul Nicholls didn"t give him a chance saying the previous couple of days rain had turned the ground against him,Twisty drifted out to 5/1 at the off and won like the champ he was on occassions! Fond Memories for me and a very sad loss!

At the end of the day, Ginger, I don’t know exactly what you saw, and my guess is neither did you unless you’re an equine vet. I heard the horse galloped accross the line, but was later destroyed – that’s information my post was based on.

I wont pretend I know the owners on a personal level, so for me to presume that all owners will gladly pay a huge vet bill and then keep a financial write-off alive is rather idealistic. We all know what happens ‘when it’s for the

    best

Not that I am saying anyone has suggested otherwise, but when a horse breaks a leg then the best course of action is to destroy the animal. It has nothing to do with business, finance or anything else. It’s a case of simply being the best thing to do.

Unlike humans, 95% of horses can’t be nursed back from a broken leg. A human can sit there and rest… a horse can’t. During the healing process a horse can often bunny-hop and cause far more damage, hence why being put to sleep is the best course of action. I’m sure the owners of Twist Magic are wealthy enough to have saved him if this were an option.

RIP Twist, you were a tw@t in your old age, but you were great and never deserved this.

Absolutely awful news. One of my favourites.

His 15L destruction of Arkle winner, Forpadydeplasterer, to land a second Tingle Creek is without doubt one of the finest exhibitions of jumping I’ve ever witnessed in a top class race.

His next outing wasn’t too bad, either – beating Petit Robin 12L in the Victor Chandler.

These horses aren’t exactly trees and he made them look ordinary.

He was a top, top class horse around Sandown and he would have given just about anything a race around there over two miles in the last ten years. His 2009 Celebration Chase win, smashing Kalahari King 10L, was another virtuoso performance around the Esher track.

His superb weight-carrying effort around Exeter on his seasonal bow indicated that, despite once again being difficult at the start, he still retained all of his ability. He was only an 8YO and very much in his prime.

He was a lovely looking horse and the link to a recent RP article is testament to this – he certainly beat Master Minded in the looks department! What a handsome head he had.

Here is a photo taken after his 6th in the 2008 Champion Chase:

    Sleep Peacefully, Magic.
