I am hearing that he has had to be put down following his fall at Newbury in the ‘Peterborough Chase’. <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>
Is this correct?
December 15, 2010 at 15:47 #332720It is true, had to be put down following suffering a serious injury during the Peterborough Chase.
Absolutely awful news, a horse with a lot of ability on his day.
RIP Twist Magic.

December 15, 2010 at 15:59 #332722Absolutely gutted, very sad news RIP Twister
December 15, 2010 at 16:09 #332723TWIST MAGIC had to be put down after falling two out when travelling well in the lead, overshadowing the dogged victory of the Tom George-trained Tartak.
One of the most popular chasers of recent seasons, with five Grade 1 victories to his credit, Twist Magic was put down after fracturing a fetlock.
Paul Nicholls, who trained Twist Magic to win nine of his 26 races after moving from France, including the Tingle Creek Chase on two occasions, said: "He was such a wonderful horse and it’s a real tragedy, but these things happen.
"He was going to win without coming off the bridle and I’m gutted."
Twist Magic was about a length in front of Breedsbreeze, with Tartak another couple of lengths behind, when he came down.
Breedsbreeze was left in front but Tartak, who had been prominent throughout, rallied going to the last andoutstayed his rival on the gruelling run to the line.
Twist Magic had been reluctant to start and had to be led in by two of Nicholls’ staff, but he took the lead down the back straight and appeared full of running when he fell.

December 15, 2010 at 16:36 #332728So sorry to hear this horrible news. I didnt get to see the race today but thought he would win it. A great horse and such a sad loss. Condolenses to all connections
December 15, 2010 at 16:46 #332730What a choker
Very sad for connections, a horse with untapped class.December 15, 2010 at 16:54 #332734Poor Twist Magic,
He was so talented and so quirky – a wonderful combination to see in a racehorse for the public, but perhaps not the trainer or the punter.
This is an awful way for his life to end and still only 8!
RIP

He was my favourtie 2 miler by a long way, I know he’d be a bit mischievious on his day but going around Sandown he’d (in my opinion) beat any of them.
I thought the Tingle Creek was his this year and but for bad weather we most likely wouldn’t have lost him. Just going to watch his annihalation of forpadydeplasterer in last years Tingle Creek again.
I thought he got up o.k, I’m honestly gutted
December 15, 2010 at 17:30 #332755Sad news indeed.
Unless I’m very much mistaken – and by god I hope I am – the only reason he was destroyed is because it would have been too expensive to keep him alive, which is the saddest part of all.
I say this because I hear the horse galloped on over the line.
Can someone please clarify?
December 15, 2010 at 17:33 #332758Why is the text always like this on gaz’s posts?

You are very much mistaken Onthesteal.
I was there today.
Twist Magic did get up and "ran" past the winning post. But I could see his back leg looked completely broken about halfway down. There is not much point of going in to more distressing detail. Take it from me, it was obvious the horse would need to be put down. The quicker the better.Value Is EverythingDecember 15, 2010 at 17:42 #332764AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716

I hope to god that’s not true.
I wish I was a millionaire, I’d look after horses like this. I know it’s a business but it just doesn’t seem fair.
December 15, 2010 at 17:47 #332766Unless people know the truth why speculate?
This must be very distressing to the owners. That some people are spreading it around that it was not neccessary, is heaping yet more distress on them.
Value Is EverythingDecember 15, 2010 at 17:59 #332768RIP Twist Magic – enigmatic but popular racehorse
