Early Triumph contender running tomorrow at Chepstow in Far West? Seems early to send a decent one out, but the breeding suggests he’s one to keep an eye on.
He’s no mug that Nicholls you know
Anyone heard of any others early doors that they’re waiting for?
October 13, 2012 at 20:57 #416624Far West looked grand today, looks born to jump a fence. Could have a very decent future chaser on our hands me thinks. Only time will tell.

Diamond Joshua 17th OctoberThe median start date for placed horses is the fourth of December whilst that for winners is just about a fortnight later.
So chances are, we won’t have seen the leading contenders just yet. Perhaps the Triumph winner is amongst the 187 3yos entered in the Tattersalls horses in training sale at the end of this month?
Far West certainly looked good yesterday but the main concern would be that his Auteuil form wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. Furthermore, Paul Nicholls may already have a stronger candidate in either Sametegal or Lac Fontana. Moreover, I think that Alan King’s Handazan could be considerably better than he shown yesterday. After a good jump at the first, he clattered the second and never regained his fluency for the rest of the race. He certainly has the physique and the engine so with a restoration of confidence and a possible gelding operation, he could very easily be more closely matched with Far West.
Far West is most probably the best seen so far ahead of Hilali but of the horses yet to jump a hurdle, Dermot Weld’s Show Court, Willie Mullins’ Fatcatinthehat, Alan King’s Rayadour Donald McCain’s Counsel and John Quinn’s Moidore are perhaps the most intriguing.
All the same, we’re still at the stage where anything could be anything…
October 14, 2012 at 16:52 #416724I’d be inclined to agree, although I was very taken with the horse yesterday. It has become the norm to see the eventual Triumph winners sent out later on(barring last year which was a piss poor renewal anyway).
I think he’ll have a much brighter future over fences, and I could be getting way ahead of myself, but I’ve already started scouting for 2014 Arkle prices for the horse.
November 1, 2012 at 20:44 #418850Nicholls has another interesting one out tomorrow in the listed juvenile hurdle at Wetherby in the form of Sametegal, a horse with an enviable profile. As earlier mentioned, it’s still very early as far as serious Triumph contenders go, but if he looks as good on the track as he is on paper then he could be another one to watch.
November 4, 2012 at 12:15 #419101Taken the King’s ex Aga Khan horse at 33/1. He will be better once gelded and on better ground. Good for the ew multiples if anything, stable aim at the race, and the owners have said this is his target.
November 5, 2012 at 23:20 #419269I been impressed by MC VICAR he beat a dual winner at Kempton and why it is true was getting weight from that horse this was his first race over hurdles and won. he also gave weight away and won well on sunday so at 33/1 my early pick.
November 6, 2012 at 00:20 #419273Thank you for compiling those statistics, BH. Really interesting. It makes you think that anyone backing anything ante-post for the race at this moment is rather foolhardy.
It is also interesting to note that those who had long seasons before their good runs in the Triumph tended to achieve little afterwards, or fizzle out after one more good year. Only the ultra-tough Fair Along really bucks that trend. It doesn’t bode well for Countrywide Flame’s career.
November 6, 2012 at 00:31 #419274By the way, occasional forum contributor
jetleo1111
went to an Owners’ Day at the Hobbs yard and told me that they are keen on a juvenile hurdler called
Doomed
. I cannot find any record of such a beast on the RP site though.
Any ideas?

Given King’s relative dominance in this sphere, or atleast hype and prominent betting candidates (Mughas, Trouble at Bay, Howle Hill, Penzance, Blazing Bailey, Katchit, Mille Chief, Grumeti, Balder Succes, Walkon etc) you have to think he’ll likely have a solid candidate come Cheltenham time. A candidate which likely isn’t McVicar. Relatively no hype for him, and the stable is bound to have more hyped candidates emerge later (along with Handazan already).
Of course Katchit was similarly average on the flat and was highly tried early on, but this isn’t a typical profile.
This is an absurd betting proposition as a race, but the best angle to take is simply follow, read and watch candidates from the King, Henderson and Nicholls yard (and the Hobbs to an extent).
January 20, 2013 at 20:21 #426998Hoping Exeter clears of snow and card goes ahead Wednesday. looking forward to seeing Lac Fontana (Clifford Baker horse to follow) U.K. debut and hope he’s the next Zarkandar
February 7, 2013 at 19:58 #428779Glad to see Lac Fontana eventually getting a run on Saturday. Tough ask against River Maigue but if he comes through that he could jump to the head of the market, fingers crossed!

Can’t see River Maigue running in that
February 8, 2013 at 00:52 #428797Am on BLOOD COTIL at 25/1 so hope he wins it i do.
February 8, 2013 at 11:33 #428820Hi MarkTT,
You are right. Chatterbox is the representative for the Henderson stable. Still be a big ask for Lac Fontana to beat him given his thumping of My Tent Or Yours. Still hopeful of a big run though!!
February 10, 2013 at 10:31 #429053Not too disappointed with Lac Fontana’s effort yesterday. He’ll improve for the run and should be suited by better ground and faster pace. Still hoping for a good run at the Festival, although on the bare form (line through Milord) has it all to do.
February 10, 2013 at 11:10 #429056Was told to back Alexandre Six (33/1) for the Triumph, although he is still entered no where for a run before, although Henderson said he still had a big gun to fire at the Argento meeting, I’m hoping he was talking about him.
Seems to be lazy at his hurdles though, has fell twice.
