It was in PN’s Stable Tour in RP in October Irish Stamp, in big bold lettering at the top. But obviously plans change and it’s highly doubtful that this will happen now.
I’ve also noticed that about Royal Mix, I was really impressed with him when he made his debut at Newbury so hoping he comes back sound. The dangers of ante-post!
February 16, 2010 at 12:09 #277102No Rich, Nicholls said:
"I’d like to aim him at Chepstow’s Finale Hurdle over Christmas"
February 16, 2010 at 12:12 #277103Rich,
That headline reads "I’d like to aim Sang Bleu at the Finale"
Which refers to the Finale Hurdle for 3-y-olds at Chepstow on Welsh National day. Not the Pertemps final.

His jumping still leaves a lot to be desired but he has plently of size and scope so expect him to get progressively better with experience. He has a very high cruising speed and already looks ultra tough. He should improve markedly on anything he has acheived to date when he gets a stronger pace and looks the type who’ll love cheltenham particularly the hill. His trainer has expressed doubts about his ability to act on quicker ground but his breeding suggeests that proper national hunt good ground shouldn’t be a problem. If he goes to the triumph he could well start close to favourite which would make quotes of 16/1 still freely available look very big.
I would have no worries whatsoever about the ground for Pittoni. Russell said after the last race that he’d improve for better going. It’s just typical Charles Byrnes playing down his horses chances!
February 16, 2010 at 16:22 #277174Sorry my bad, mis-read it. Thought that the Pertemps Final was a bit of an odd race to enter him in!
February 16, 2010 at 23:02 #277263I think the Irish will win the Triumph this year.
A strong a hand as we have ever had. I have a feeling Secant Star is the one
February 19, 2010 at 11:38 #277764Pittonin takes on Morning Supreme on Sunday, it’s gonna be a cracker!

Pittoni is as low as 12 to 1 for the Triumph Hurdle, but he is not certain to start at Cheltenham. Byrnes is examining the option of forsaking the Triumph and pointing the Grade One winner at the French version of the Triumph, the Prix Alain du Breil, at Auteuil during the summer.
“The owner (Patrick Wilmott) has Jumbo Rio, who was runner-up in that race in France last year,” he said.
“We are going to run Pittoni in the Grade Two novice at Navan on Saturday and there won’t be any decision on Cheltenham until after that.
“He definitely wouldn’t go to Cheltenham if it was good ground. He needs cut. But we’ll know after Saturday.
February 26, 2010 at 22:50 #279362God blasht it they better Pittoni take his chance in the Triumph after he hacks up tomorrow!
February 27, 2010 at 18:06 #279507Pittoni was given a stone today and has come home a very disappointing 3rd. Cant be having him at all for the Triumph.
I think its between Alavian and Carlito Brigante but Hendersons charge was very impressive today and you have Secant Star who could shake things up but I would go with the two previous that would be more likely to win.

Pittoni was very dissapointing today, but seemingly he was found to be clinically abnormal after the race
Won’t give up on him yet, although his participation in the Triumph must be in doubt now
February 27, 2010 at 20:31 #279543Have had a go on Westlin Winds at 20-1. Also like Orzare and Pistolet Noir but hard to tell if they are going for the fred winter.
February 28, 2010 at 07:59 #279596The triumph hurdle is a very competive race as we all know. However from time to time value can be found. I believe that the value bet this year is Westlins Wind trained by C Egerton.
This was given to me by a Prestbury Park stall owner who is a good friend of mine.

February 28, 2010 at 15:52 #279683Pittoni could still make the JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham following his defeat at Navan on Saturday.
The hitherto unbeaten Charles Byrnes-trained four-year-old was never really in serious contention and was reported to be "clinically abnormal" after the race.
Speaking at Leopardstown on Monday, Byrnes said: "He is a lot better this morning than he was last night.
"Last night the Triumph Hurdle was definitely ruled out, but it might be back on today. It’s 50-50."

Even if he does would you want to back him? Has a problem, jumps stickily and probably not good enough anyway.
March 2, 2010 at 18:23 #280075Mille Chief out of this race, comiserations to those on ante-post.
Looks to be wide open now. I was originally on Alaivan but there’s a host of alternatives who could go well. I still wouldn’t rule out Pittoni despite his last run, nor Pistolet Noir if he goes for it. Think Secant Star is a very interesting runner.
