The Bathwick Tyres at Wincanton is this week’s trifecta rollover. I like to do the Saturday trifecta but I notice returns have been a bit disappointing lately. There seems to be a rush of money for it in the last 5 minutes, negating the benefit of the rollover.
Last week I thought with Celestial Halo and the second and third not being heavily fancied we would see a good return but in fact the tricast paid more.
I have a book by Andy Beyer recommending certain combinations as better than others for the trifecta (he recommends not putting strong favs in 2nd or 3rd as a lot of people box their trifectas) but I haven’t seen this working so well in the UK. Maybe the rollover players are more sophisticated.
Perhaps Glenn, our trifectologist, can give some guidance.

There are two rules about the trifecta rollover
1) You do not talk about the trifecta rollover
2) You DO NOT talk about the trifecta rollover
1) The rollover often isn’t included in the pool figures. Bare this in mind. For example, if there’s a 13k pool figure and 10k carryover, that can mean that there’s really 23k in the pool rather than 3k of live money and 10k of dead money
2) Having looked at the trifecta returns over the last couple of years it’s quite clear that they’re driven by handful (if that) of players doing weighted full perms based on BF prices (and draw dependence where appropriate) rather than being the result of thousands of the general public betting their two pounds on different selections. I would therefore forget about the sort of strategy that Andy Beyer suggests (locating underbet combos) and just assume you’ll get the tricast dividend stripped of the overound and use it as a vehicle to bet your opinions regardless of what you think the great unwashed, who don’t play this bet, will have plumped for.January 6, 2012 at 21:08 #385813I made two New Year’s resolutions.
1. Investigate ALL pool bets thoroughly

January 6, 2012 at 21:31 #385817Can someone explain to me, how exactly the trifecta works?? lol
January 6, 2012 at 21:34 #385818You go into a betting shop, fill out a quick slip, hand over the money and walk out. You could save yourself some time by just handing your money over without filling in the quick slip!
January 6, 2012 at 21:54 #385822Oh yeah basically a tricast, mind went blanc for a sec lol it probably is quicker and easier if u walk in and hand your money over, saves wasting paper lol
January 6, 2012 at 22:03 #385824The rollovers can be huge tho, anybody land one??
January 6, 2012 at 23:05 #385837It might be worth pointing out that "The Bathwick Tyres" doesn’t really narrow down the choice of races at Wincanton a great deal tomorrow for those contemplating the folly.
January 7, 2012 at 15:16 #385923The tote have switched this race to Sandown 3.45 today, but last night they said it was Wincanton. About an hour’s form study wasted.

Everyone’s

January 7, 2012 at 22:44 #385991Trifecta rollovers? That’s adorable. No, multi-million dollar pick sixes are better if you’re willing to put the money down and wait.
