Can’t believe i’ve passed this thread by, yet given my opinion on the individual race threads!
Anyway, belated thanks to Blunkett for organising and hope my entry is ok for you all.

    Here goes :

    Arkle – Overturn 1pt EW 4/1 Hills

. Warming to his chances after footperfect rounds and has got the festival T Shirt. Simonsig is a potential monster but based on his last two hurdle runs and two small field novice egg and spoon wins.

    Champion Hurdle

    – The price has gone on The Fly, yet my selection purely at the odds has to be :

Rock On Ruby – 1pt EW 7/1 Laddies

    .

RSA – Lord Windermere 20/1 1pt EW general

Gradually improving, has gained plenty fencing experience in decent Irish events, stepped up to 3m for the first time, looks a real RSA type. May not quite have the class win, but should definately be in the hunt.

    QMCC – Edgardo Sol 1pt EW B365 80/1.

Simply looking for something to run into a place as SS in too short for this compy, he must have a squeak of a place based on his run behind Sizer at Xmas. Goes well at Cheltenham too.

World Hurdle – Reve De Sivola 2pts Win 5/1 Lads.

Definately not a soft ground merchant that many think he is. Can see him increasing the advantage over OW if he turns up here, check his novice hurdle runs on good ground. I’m on at 10sEW for real money thanks to The Weekender piece a few weeks ago, he has a real favourites chance in my book. The one to beat.

    Gold Cup – Bobsworth

    – 2pt Win 7/2 SportingBet
If he gets there in one piece 100% fit, i can see this fella winning quite comfortably. Horses for courses has never been so apt. Could have won twice/three times the distance at Newbury IMO. Massive Chance.

Now that the value has gone from MTOY is has to be Melodic Rendezvous, although a lot of the value has gone from him too.

2pts win Melodic Rendezvous (8/1 various)

Sumpreme – My Tent Or Yours, 10/1 win (various).

Anyone who’s backed that antepost should be laying it off like there’s no tomorrow.

I like Dodging Bullets but am a tad concerned he’s not been out for a few months and for that reason i’m going

    Un Atout – 2pts win 9-1 Hills.

Hi All,New member and first post (So go easy on my selections)

Assuming Hunt Ball goes for the Byrne, that will hopefully ensures Divers will get a lovely racing weight of around 10s4lb.Backed at 33s and 25s, but 20s still available

Saphir Du Rheu 20s Fred Winter

Hoping Nicholls goes the same route as Santuare

Pique Sous 20s for Supreme, but now worried that nothing beats MTOY!!

A sad sign of our times.

Unless you’re a professional punter this strategy should be reserved for true financial markets.

I’ve got MTOY at 16s, 14s & 10s (I also have Melodic Rendezvous) and why would I want to lay off to guarantee a profit that would barely cover my train fare and entrance when I can let it ride and hopefully pay for the week, plus giving me great satisfaction as my ante post betting has been extremely selective and could just as easily have gone tits up.

If someone offered you a free bet in the race, would you turn them down ?

Laying off here does just that – gives you a free bet.

I’m with Lee on this one, it diminishes the excitement and anticipation of ante-post punting. I’ve got many great vouchers such as The Fly at 6s, Salsify at 10s, Empiracle at 25s, but also a few turkeys. Let them ride and hope for the big win, or throw a couple of quid on some market rivals as an alternative.

What everyone seems to forget about laying off and makes me suspect as to how many actually bother is that you need to have the capital tied up your account, ie if he’s had £50 on at 16s, and wants to lay off at half the odds, thats £400 to set aside.

    Not that easy is it?

It depends on at what cost Mark.

The last thing I want to is be stood there as the tapes go up and my mates say "So what do you want to win ?" with my response being "Well I’m all Green so anything will do".

(btw that my suggest it’s all about the betting but I susbcribe to the RP every day yet bet only once a week on average so I can easily enjoy the thrill of the sport without a bet.)

and I know the above is an extreme example and I could lay bits off to cover my bets but then I’m not far off cutting in half some of the prices I’ve taken and reducing my potential return.

To be fair during any normal meeting I’d agree with you but this is Cheltenham after all and part of the thrill is the fact that I have an AP voucher for a price 8 x bigger than is currently available.

That’s half the battle won as far as I’m concerned.

Shack – in your example, I assume Mark is only suggesting I lay £50 to give myself a free bet and therefore only standing to reduce my income by £100. But even so…

Anyhow, I don’t want to hijack the excellent thread so each to their own I suppose.

bit of catch up to do been away for a wek or so

World Hurdle – looks a cracker of a race this year, Quevega doesnt look like its going for this which is a shame as i would be selcting her.

    the bet just now is

Oscar Whisky win – 5/1 various

, better ground should help him get home, and i think he woudl have beat Reve last time if went a bit sooner on him, travelled very well as usual.

Next RSA – etiher the favourite wins by a fence or going to be a shock long priced winner, Fav just bit too short for race of this nature, seen many well fancied ones over years struggle in the war of attration that is this race, selection

    Tour Des Champs 50/1 EW

loooked good couple of times ive seen it this season will stay no problems, whether it goes for this race or a handicap guess thats chance take.

    Supremes –

    Melodic Rendevous 9/1 win

quite taken with him last couple of runs, obviosuly favourite highly impressive at weekend, but price reflects that now, seen many a hyped up short priced one for this race turned over
