Zilzal,
Count me in. 6ft 4in, 17st 10lbs. That’s 248lbs. I’ll pledge to lose 38lbs by Arc day. If I don’t, I’ll donate a monkey, if I do I’ll donate half that.

Don’t overdo it physically or financially !. I won’t keep you to that monkey pledge.
Got on my bike today for first time in two years. Scarey how much leg muscle I’ve lost in that time. Next I need to find a battery for the heart-rate monitor watch and I’ll be away in a hack. On holdiday for next week so won’t be applying myself fully.
Best of luck

June 8, 2005 at 23:55 #91810Proof positive that exrecise isn’t always good for you – ran for a drop-shot at badminton tonight and skidded right into the net-post, bring said post and net down on myself.
Cannot feel right knee at moment, nice lump on head also, and had to have a big KFC dinner to keep me calm once the shock had worn off.

June 11, 2005 at 22:51 #91811Think I need to join this thread.
At present I’m 20 years old, 6’2 and 14 stone 9lbs. Which according to certain members of my family is far to heavy for my age, think I need to lose at least a stone or so but no idea which diets work best? Going to do more exercise, particularly cycling with me mate over summer when i’m not working and try and cut down on the beer/lager and drinking more spirity drinks like vodka mixers etc. as don’t want to give up drink totally.
Think I should have known it was time to lose weight when a gal i met in a club etc. thought when i told her i played rugby that i had been a prop-forward and not a centre/second row :(
Good luck all<br>Martin
July 8, 2005 at 18:07 #91812Zilzal,
I’ve been away for the best part of the last month but that pledge stands. I’m told though that 2lbs a week is the sort of weight loss you should be aiming so if you don’t mind I’ll reduce the weight loss target to 32lbs.
Lost eight of it so far through cutting back on the intake of Guinness, eating more sensibly and a 30-40 minute walk most days.

Good to hear you’re make progress. More than can be said for me. A weeks break in Paris (trying foi gras for first and last time !)  early last month and a sprained ankle  last week hasn’t helped.
But having weighed in at the pharmacy today, I am still resolved to lose 1 1/2 stone by October – it should be 2 1/2 !
Beginning now to even wonder whether I can even afford my treats ie a couple of garibaldi biscuits with my cuppa and a humble bottle of guinness come eventide.
Keep up the hard work !

July 9, 2005 at 17:10 #91816Summer is probably the best time to shift the weight, with warmer weather usually reducing the appetite.
I lost three stone since last summer, want to make it one more, and then I’ll be my target weight of 9 and a half stone, which is probably about right for my height. Amazingly I’ve eaten very badly the last month or so and have not put any weight on…which could be down to having lost the weight I lost before very slowly (1-2lb a week is the best way, it won’t come back on quite as fast!)
Good luck ACR and Zilzal. Thankfully I don’t have beer to cut back on…just the Pimms and the Malibu! (and Toffeechinos ;) )
October 5, 2005 at 18:42 #91818I have to admit my failure in the original objective here(losing 10% of my body weight) but I did manage to lose some 10lbs without much effort at all. Even that has meant I feel slimmer and better with an inch or two off my waist, I sleep easier especially when resting on my side and I dont ruin my chinos when rubbing against the steering wheel while getting in and out of the car. If I had made the necessary lifestyle change and started commuting on a bike, I have no doubt I would have doubled what I have lost. One habit I managed to change a little was having full lunches each day during the summer. The salads I had instead were more than satisfying.
I intend to achieve my original objective over the next six months and will be forwarding my pledge amount above to Debra in the next week.
It’s probably not the male thing to discuss diet and body weight but Sunday’s article in the Obsever on Obesity and Diabetes is a timely reminder of the dangers for individuals and society.

December 23, 2009 at 19:46 #265182Weighed myself last night. 112kg, but that was whilst wearing clothes, and after having drunk 5 cans of Stella without going to the toilet.
Will start exercise regime on Boxing Day. (Sleet forecast for Christmas Day.) Will cycle to Romney Marsh. Weather forecast is Fog, which means no wind. Main problem will be getting killed by a motorist from behind. Have never worried about traffic, but fog on an unfamiliar stretch of road must be a concern. I’ll start cycling westwards later in the week, as I’ll only get properly fit by cycling up hills.
Food is a bit more problematic. I have a Cornish pasty for breakfast every day, as the bakers is the only shop near work, and it keeps me full for the remainder of the shift. Will have to work something else out. That is why I’m starting new regime whilst on holiday.
