West TipFebruary 11, 2013 at 20:57 #429310Again, goodfellow, while your two selections were both very good steeplechasers they weren’t the Duke’s best. Barton Bank was shaping up to be one of the all-time greats until his back injuries and sinus problems caught up with him after his mishaps in the 1994 Charlie Hall and King George.
February 12, 2013 at 02:08 #429345Two of my faves that have already been nominated… The Tank and Viking Flagship. Though there are so many that one could choose.

The most improved horse in training in the 94/95 NH season. Not quite the same horse after that, though he did put up a great performance to finish 5th in the 97 national carrying 11-10.
February 12, 2013 at 22:07 #429443A chasers’ hall of fame that omitted Kauto Star really couldn’t be taken seriously.

February 14, 2013 at 01:11 #429556Agreed, can’t leave out Kauto Star. Can we put in both Pendil and Captain Christy, the 2 giants of the seventies? If I absolutley had to choose, the Captain won the GC as novice, a feat not repeated since (technically Dawn Run was not a novice, as she’d had one run over fences the previous season)

DenmanFebruary 20, 2013 at 10:00 #430084No list can be taken seriously without the inclusion of Mill House – the only horse to my knowledge to have given Arkle weight and a beating !
A bad jump is not an excuse for being beaten – that’s what they’re there for – to be jumped.
