If people can provide a link when nominating ‘thread of the year’ it would be grateful
Don’t worry about the linking the Frankel thread Jac, I’ll find that one easy enough as Joni bumps it up on the hour every hour……That’s coz he keeps having winners Nath!!!

I would have thought that, given the current climate, people would quite like to be able to come on here and share thoughts/views in an amicable way. Each to their own though I suppose. Or is that me being too chummy again…?!!

November 29, 2017 at 21:15 #1329443Poster of the Year – My chum Jac (Triptych) who is pure class. Special mention to Ginge, Stevie C, Steeplechasing, Nath, Botchy and VTC plus all the contributors to Joni’s Poni’s.

November 29, 2017 at 21:30 #1329446yet doesn’t get on your nerves like some.
Says he who holds the world record for getting on peoples nerves…….
That’s exactly my point. :lol:Ever heard of self deprecating humour, Nathan?
Value Is EverythingNovember 29, 2017 at 22:03 #1329453Forgot to mention Charles Olney for being able to touch the face of God one day with his tips. Truly remarkable day’s tipping that was.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 29, 2017 at 22:32 #1329462I’ve missed most of what has gone here during the Flat season, but will give my nominations for some of the sections.
Poster of the Year It has to be Venture To Cognac, who breathes life into the Big Races Discussion section with comprehensive race previews, and who does untold work in the competitions section. Honorable mentions to Steeplechsing, who I always enjoy reading, and Jonibake, who I generally seem to pass like a ship in the night as he winds down for the winter game. Gingertipster always makes a good case while I miss the contributions of Stilvi.
Thread of the year
Flat Horse
Jumps Horse Sizing John – His achievement in winning the Irish Hennessy, the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Guinness Gold Cup at Punchestown will likely not be replicated for a long time.
Flat Jockey
Jumps Jockey Robbie ‘Puppy’ Power – has a phenomenal spring.
Flat Trainer Aidan O’Brien – I didn’t follow the flat too closely but his achievement in breaking the world record for Group 1 wins seems all the more special given the lack of a real star horse.
Jumps Trainer Willie Mullins – I could easily have said Gordon Elliott but Mullins’ achievement in overhauling him despite having less than half the number of runners pips it for me.
Hero
Riding Performance Jamie Codd on Fayonagh (Champion Bumper) – never panicked when things went wrong at the start. Could easily have rushed her up given her previous displays when she was ridden on the pace, but her made the best of a bad situation, and the mare had the ability to make up the ground when asked to close in the finish.
Broadcaster
One to Watch in 2018
Racecourse Galway – I think I said it last year but they run a great show for the once a year visitors for the festival. A great city to spend a couple of days as well.

I think Bobby is going to take some beating for Poster of the Year but you will give him a good run for his money and your Joni’s Ponies have been flying this year
So many good tipsters and judges of form on TRF and we all seem to have a moment or two throughout the various seasons and some passionate debates about our choices, it’s mainly friendly banter but can get a bit heated at times but then that’s what Forums are all about, it would be boring if we all agreed. For Riding Performance I’m going to nominate:-
Daniel Tudhope for his blistering last to first finish on Lord Glitters in the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot on Champions Day.
Lord Glitters had passed just the one rival with two furlongs to run and was stuck behind a wall of horses with nowhere to go, Danny then switched him out close to the stands and he sprouted wings with a devastating run to grab GM Hopkins on the line.Villain
Davy Russell for striking out in anger at Kings Dolly.

Aiden O’Brien
I can never get him right but no getting away from what he’s achieved this year. One to Watch in 2018
John Gosden’s – Roaring LionRacecourse
Newmarket
Not every one’s cup of tea I know, but my local track where I get to see the best thoroughbreds often making their first appearance before going on to greater things and becoming Champions.
Also been great to meet up and enjoy spending some time with (my old chum ) Jonibake who manages to make the journey to his home from home from time to time, especially when there might be one or two Frankel runners making an appearance.Hero
Bradley Lowery
A really special little man who sadly lost his fight for life this year, he was a great Sunderland fan and this year he had his own colours in the 2017 Grand National as the Honourary 41st listing.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 30, 2017 at 00:24 #1329473Poster of the Year – LostSoldier3. I remember a user on another forum bemoaning the loss of subjectivity when certain sections of a forum form cosy groups. This guy used to refer to it as the Tufty Club Effect.
Edge is essential in my opinion. There is no realism at all in a forum which coexists in a Utopian agreement.
The truth in the real world is that people always get on one another’s tits from time to time. That’s the very flawed world we live in.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 1, 2017 at 01:06 #1329593PS the voting patterns here largely prove my point. If only napping horses was as easy

Who sys there’s a “loss of subjectivity”, Steve?
Reason why I nominated both Joni and Joe is because I can have a heated debate over “horse racing” issues, and know it won’t descend in to personal stuff. Or if it does doesn’t last long and is soon forgotten… I know you don’t want to enter debates with me anymore and that’s not good for the forum. Know it’s hard to believe with the number of posts I write, but have stopped myself from posting on some of the subjects you’re involved with because of that. For someone who welcomes “edge” and getting on “one another’s tits”, you do seem to take things personally. Suspect that’s partly my fault. I think me and you have taken things too far occasionally. Yes, everyone on here should be able to have strong and meaningful discussions/opinions on racing, that’s what this place is for. But there’s absolutely no reason to “get on one another’s tits” like some (including me) have done. Not that I think we should say sorry; am just making a point.Anyway, what do you say about a fresh start, Steve?
P.S. Please don’t put me forward for this award, don’t want to be involved and genuinely hate to be popular. Besides, it won’t stop me telling TRFers where you’re all going wrong.

In defence, I would say that there is plenty of disagreement on threads like Big Race Discussions and Daily, Lays and Plays where, of course, we all have different opinions on what might or might not win. The Frankel thread that you have objected to obviously attracts people who share a passion for the horse and so it is only natural that we tend to agree on most things and want the same result most of the time. Occasionally there will be people who want to knock him or to disagree with me and others which is fine as long as it done in a friendly way (on both sides of course).
Excuse me for not wanting to become embroiled in petty disagreements where it is all about who can outdo the other. You are right – there is enough of that in the real world at the moment especially with the horrible divisions in this country. I don’t enjoy it when things get personal on here and when it becomes hostile and abusive. You might like that “edge” but I know from speaking to others that it puts people off from joining in debates or putting their views across. We should all feel free to express ourselves without fear of rebuke but in a spirit of friendship rather than hostility. After all, we all have one important thing in common: we love horse-racing.
You have been a member of this forum (off and on) for several years and just about everyone respects your opinions and is impressed by your knowledge and insight. In the season of goodwill may I suggest that we celebrate our differences and do our best to be civil to one another. Life is too short no?

Value Is EverythingDecember 1, 2017 at 12:34 #1329633Merry Christmas Joni
Agree with you that being civil is a crucial point in allowing everyone on The Forum whether right or wrong to voice their opinion.
Time has a funny way of pointing us in the right direction on the opinions that we have voiced and instead of going on to pick holes in something that others enjoy celebrating a friendly word of encouragement and a little humility go a long way..JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out... -
