He won at
Cartmel
not Catterick. I was there that day and the performance was very imprssive, jumped very well and hardly turned a hair in winning.
Cartmel doesn’t serve up that many potentially special performers so I thought I’d better point out the error!
Rob
Ha! Thanks for pointing that out, Rob.
My wires must have been crossed. Our other syndicate horse, Nightboat To Cairo, made her debut at Catterick – I don’t think she’s quite as good as Agglestone Rock!
Very impressive that day and a complete natural over fences.
I’m hoping (hoping!) to visit the stable at the end of the month and will ask Phil about Aggie.
Phil’s a nice guy and one of the up and coming trainers of the North. He was the leading trainer of hunter chases in his first season, with 7 wins from just 4 horses, and the Racing Post made him one of their five breakthrough trainers to follow this year.
Agglestone Rock is in good hands.
October 12, 2009 at 12:19 #252949Will put Agglestone Rock on the list. Qozak a Nicholls horse so not allowed. First 3 horses ran over the weekend, a winner and the other 2 placed. A few are entered at Punchestown on Wednesday and Thursday.
October 12, 2009 at 14:45 #252982Unluckily backed My Condor and still can’t understand how a horse running from 17lb out of the handicap beat him.
Possibly by virtue of him being barely able to stay 1m6f nowadays, sadly, never mind the 2m-2m1f of the contests in which he mostly races. If he could setter less frantic fractions up front he’d give himself more chance of lasting home, but he’s just too darn profligate for his own good most of the time.
…And that race really should have been there for the taking once my fancy Silverhay went wrong. What was left effectively – a horse 17lb out of the weights as you mentioned in Bright Sparky, plus another rival in Cortinas with more holes in him than a flute? Very much a chance gone begging in a terrible contest.

October 12, 2009 at 15:03 #252985Petit Lord had his last outing for Nicholls in May 2008.
According to Wetherbys PTP website, he is now trained by Mrs Angela Rucker.
I’m no expert on the PTP scene, but he appears to be doing quite well and collected the Young Horse Award (West Midlands) this year.
I have posted a link of him in action. Scroll down and you will you see him in the ‘Cappa Bleu’ colours.
He is a solid enough Ladies pointer (often ridden by Mrs Rucker herself) on the evidence of his 2009 campaign but possibly not much better than that. I race-read for his pointing debut at Ampton last January and to this pair of eyes he dispatched Madge Carroll quite well, but only two of five subsequent podium finishes were converted into wins. Those comprised a routine exercise in his Members at Chaddesley Corbett, and a four-runner Maisemore Park Ladies where favourite Casalani went wrong and fellow ex-Nicholls inmate Perouse underachieved.
Either way, I’m sure the Ruckers will retain him for a season or two yet.

October 14, 2009 at 01:45 #253263Try squinting when you look at Ellerslie George. Like Denman, he is a 9yo Brown gelding by Presenting, out of a Pollerton mare. (RP has Denman down as a Chestnut.
)Ellerslie George is 2 days older than Denman.
Gerald,
Denman definitely is a chestnut I’m afraid.
Have come to the conclusion that you wrote that to pull my leg.
Unless of course you are just referring to what is in the official record?

You are looking at the right horse Gerald?

I can see where the confusion arises when looking at photographs, but Denman is most definitely a classic liver chestnut and is therefore correctly described as "ch" by Timeform, the Post and the rest.
October 14, 2009 at 19:52 #253345Okay, Rory.
I’m giving up on this one. Still can’t see it though.
I’m wondering whether the coat looks a bit different when clipped for the winter, and that I might recognise it as a liver chestnut if I saw it in the summer.
October 16, 2009 at 19:26 #253633The Sawyer in heavy ground over 2m4 to 3m . A stiff 2m5 is ideal.

King Troy fell when coming with a promising run at Cheltenham today.
Would have loved him to win.
October 18, 2009 at 14:12 #254068A 40% strike rate from the TRF horses to follow so far (4-10). All short prices but a decent start nonetheless. Der Spieler goes at Naas this afternoon.
October 28, 2009 at 13:24 #2558487 of 19 horses from the TRF list have already won since early October. All short prices though.
October 28, 2009 at 14:03 #255853Hasn’t Kangaroo Court won twice? Thought he won at Uttoxeter before Cheltenham?
October 28, 2009 at 14:13 #255854Yeah he did Moe
October 28, 2009 at 14:22 #255857Started with this on the 10th October, Moe, so KC’s run at Uttox is not included.
October 30, 2009 at 14:30 #256218Awesome spreadsheet!

Snoopy Loopy’s been confirmed for the Charlie Hall and i’d say he has a huge chance of winning, although i would like to see Ollie Magern run a gooden…
October 30, 2009 at 14:56 #256226Ollie’s the romantic’s choice, isn’t he, and I’d love to see him go in after being deprived a third win last year. Whether he’ll get a peacable time of it up front with Tamarinbleu in opposition is questionable, however.

October 30, 2009 at 17:04 #256251I know it’s not going to count, but Agglestone Rock ran a nice 2nd at Catterick on Tuesday, beaten 1/2L (6L back to the third).
So nearly a ‘Grand Slam’ for the 4YO after victories over hurdles, fences and the AW.
Went off at 8/1, but did touch 14s.
Phil gave him a spin on the flat prior to his chase debut, so it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
