Top American trainer Steve Asmussen and his assistant Sctt Blasi are being investigated by racing authorities in Kentucky and New York after allegations of cruelty to horses in his care. The allegations have surfaced after and undercover operation by PETA. I know PETA have their own agenda but this seems pretty sickening. Also in the video jockey Gary Stevens along with D Wayne Lucas talk about using electronic buzzers in a race. Warning: the video makes uncomfortable viewing.

March 21, 2014 at 21:33 #472803Lets hope he gets longer than 6 months this time, and no horses can be raced from that yard during the suspension. Its always a wrong to me when they ban the trainer but allow the assistant to carry on
Most importantly though hope it shows the world that horses can not be treated this way

I also understand Asmussen has been taken of the ballot for the Hall Of Fame election.
March 22, 2014 at 11:14 #472874Terrible. Unlikely a one of in USA either where the dollar is king. Of course, happens everywhere though. Look at our own recent doping incidents, probably only scratch the surface.
No doubt most yards and people connected care properly for the horses in their care but we shouldn’t be naive to think cruelty does happen more regularly than we wish to think it.
Understand peoples skepticism to groups such as peta, they question a deep a rooted belief system at the end of the day, but without animal rights groups such as them a lot of animal cruelty would go on unabated. Personally, I am an animal rights advocate and think the more done the better.
March 23, 2014 at 00:14 #472956An interesting letter from PETA to the BHA.

March 25, 2014 at 23:44 #473258If it was team tactics nobody was given the script.
