Just to get at least one topic about the weekends racing going.
Celestial Halo has more in his favour this time around than any other start since cheltenham and he would be my main fancy, although I would expect that if he does win many will see him to be franking binoculars superior form over him, rather than on the merits of the performance itself.
What are everyones thoughts on the race?
January 30, 2009 at 15:39 #207168Can see Afsoun winning this one, is getting back to his best after a disappointing time over fences, won the same race last year and will handle the ground.
Will be nice to see Osana back in action but think he’ll need the run
Celestial Halo has obvious claims but with Osana who can also make the running there’s likely to be a good pace and can see Afsoun picking them off on the run in.
Dont know what effect if any at all this race will have on the champion hurdle betting. If Celestial Halo gets beat by 10 lengths, will we get a race with a decent priced favourite?……probably not.
January 30, 2009 at 19:15 #207191Interesting to see Paddy Brennan back on Osana. Got a great tune out of him in the Bula last year.
January 30, 2009 at 19:29 #207193Will be interesting to see who leads here. I expect Osana to, with Celestial Halo tracking. Afsoun is a bit of a dog, ran with more enthusiasm last time with a change of tactics (front-running). Whether he’ll put it all in this time, going back to being held up, remains to be seen. Celestial Halo should win this, especially with a fitness advantage.

Interesting race, but as a betting medium I wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole.
Both Osana and Celestial Halo have their eyes on a much bigger prize, and neither are likely to leave that opportunity behind for this meagre pot. Couldn’t even guarantee a decent pace, even though they both need it.January 30, 2009 at 21:53 #207208Largely want to go along with reet on this one. The one that you’d expect to go out and set the pace is Osana (Ruby will be more than happy to leave him to it, I’d imagine), and I wouldn’t be wanting to make any assertions about that one’s readiness.
January 30, 2009 at 23:38 #207232Very interesting. Will CHalo bolt out in front? Will Osana be ready and fit already? Or can Afsoun bring out hos form again?
I NEED HELP!January 31, 2009 at 00:27 #207245As Afsoun is an unreliable old monkey and Osana is having his seasonal debut, I shall side with Celestial Halo in this.

January 31, 2009 at 00:48 #207248Alph intrests me, hasnt run to badly on his last two starts in decent enough races, with there being doubts about some of the principles could be worth a bet at 25s
January 31, 2009 at 01:10 #207255I wouldn’t back Afsoun with someone else’s money.
Expect a big run from Celestial Halo as he tunes up for Cheltenham. Osana is capable but I expect Nicholls horse to take this.
January 31, 2009 at 05:36 #207298Despite really fancying Celestial Halo to hose up here, i would be interested in dusky lord at 50-1, if fully fit he may have conditions up his street.

Dusky Lord may have conditions up his street Bulwark. But Celestial Halo and Osana will be streets ahead of him. I would want better than 500/1 to back Dusky Lord.

Value Is EverythingJanuary 31, 2009 at 17:35 #207332Hes almost available at that price on the excahnges ginge which is somewhat off putting as an indication to his fitness, 100s available with a few firms .
I reckon celestial halo should cut out the running here, and with a serious gallop likely I would think that Dusky Lord should go well off it if he is fit and well. Im not 100% convinced that osana would be in love with such conditions, and although being next best to CH on class, he may not get to run to his best.
Theres no such thing as a 100-1 cert, just ones that tick a few boxes and may have a chance if everything goes right.
I’lkl still have a little e/w on dusky lord at 100s and be hopeful, and if he’s beaten out of sight then no great shakes.
January 31, 2009 at 18:55 #207344I’ve laid the jolly and backed Osana.
Pipe’s horse has the better form in the book imo, and goes well fresh. It’s crossed my mind that he may have been deliberately been started late to boost his chances at the Festival, and I’m hoping that he will be more than ready fitness-wise, to do himself justice today.
I just can’t have Celestial Halo. Don’t really know why – I just think he’s one-paced.
January 31, 2009 at 18:57 #207346I’ve gone on Celestial Halo, but im worried about Osana. Always like to see how horses run after a break. I dont fancy Afsoun and i dont know why. Alph could suprise but Dusky Lord and The Big Orse have more chance of winning Crufts
January 31, 2009 at 19:15 #207350I can see Osana turning that form around off level weights in the Champion. The betting told everyone he’d need the run.
I don’t think Henderson and JP will be losing any sleep though.
January 31, 2009 at 19:18 #207351Totally agree with you ther IP. Even though i liked CH before today, i might back the horse i backed last year ( Osana ). Was a good run
