Winston Churchill will be turning in his grave if a bookie buys it

anyone got a spare 1000 quid I’m a bit short of the purchase price.
It’s not to make up the balance it’s to get me to the states and rob Fort Knox

400 million who on earth is going to pay that?
March 6, 2008 at 08:03 #148709If the Tote falls into the hands of the bookmakers it will be a complete disaster for the sport.
Sutcliife has totally failed to show any leadership on this matter, you’d think that his job title is "Minister With Special Responsibility For Bookmakers".
I’m old enough to remember the disaster nearly 50 years ago when the Jockey Club decided to recommend that legal off-course betting should be brought into existence in the form of a gift to the bookmaking industry, generously donated by racing itself.

March 6, 2008 at 10:52 #148734I agree entirely with Venusian: it will be a disaster for racing if one of the Big3 buys the Tote –
especially if it’s the one that’s currently favourite.
Btw, the Tote are offering some new betting opportunities today, I hear.

I was on the Tote site earlier on and there were options for win, place, show (very American), as well as betting without the favourite and one other which I cannot remember.
However although they were visible they were disabled for use – all marked n/a
March 6, 2008 at 12:27 #148747Have just been back on and they are fixed odds bets. The other bet is a "match" bet – but still not available.
Needless to say the place (1-2) and show (1-2-3) odds are not as generous as the normal fractions, but all credit to them – it is another option.
March 6, 2008 at 12:55 #148753I haven’t been following this story but is the suggestion that the tote will be sold without specific conditions on the minimum proportion of pools to be paid to winners? Would there be any mandatory contribution to the racing industry?

Imake my money with placepot and quadpot perms….not looking to good!March 6, 2008 at 20:58 #148824Not a good time for me
Imake my money with placepot and quadpot perms….not looking to good!Don’t worry about that Ghost. No matter who the Tote gets sold to, pool bets are here to stay – they are big money earners. So your placepots, jackpots, quadpots, scoop 6’s etc will still be in operation – that I’m quite confident about.
