With Noble Request carrying top weight (At the moment) anyone got a view on this race? I like the chances of Acambo of 10st 13lb. Was impressed by him last time out.
January 17, 2007 at 19:41 #35147If he runs, noble request. will have top weight, but as he showed last season he improved with every run, and his form this season seems to reflect the same is happening this year. he will also be suited by the likely fast pace. each way at 25-1 looks tempting to me. i also think he is likely to run as he isnt entered for the champion hurdle trial at haydock this weekend which would have been an obvious target and he wont run in the agfa because detroit city is being aimed at it.<br>

Dave
He may be a very good horse, but he ain’t Rooster Booster.<br> Even he couldn’t carry top weight to victory in this, after achieving a whole lot more than Noble Request has to date.
January 17, 2007 at 21:53 #35149The bookies make the Pipe trained Acambo 6/1 fav which is understandable given its racing weight alloted and victories in the Swinton and Ladbroke. Connections have delayed a switch to fences to go for this then possibly the Champion. They are hoping for drying ground.<br>Noble Request will have to be very good to defy top weight and concede nearly a stone to Acambo. Also high in the weights are Arcalis, Afsoun and the out of form Al Eile.<br>Some useful novices lurking around 10 stone include Silverburn, Moon Over Miami, De Soto and Tipperary All Star.<br>Never rule out the Irish who  nonetheless are complaining about the treatment of their horses by the English h’capper e.g. Mister High has a lot more to do than in Sunday’s Pierse.<br>Doubtless the h’cap will unfold in due course.  <br>

January 17, 2007 at 23:10 #35150Looking at his run on Sunday i’d be interested in Mister Hight were he to go to Cheltenham for the Coral Cup – he stayed on really well last weekend, will hopefully get in off a relatively lightweight too in that race if O’Neill runs Rhinestone Cowboy or Refinement.
As for the Totesport Trophy I don’t like seeing novices taking on seasoned handicappers, I get the impression that a horse is either a good novice and thus a top class horse who should be treated as such or a handicapper.
Of the horses mentioned above Silverburn and De Soto are top novices and Tipperary Allstar a handicapper. Seen a couple of useful novices run in this in recent years (Nous Voila and Roman Ark) and not run so well since.
If we can get the weights up a few pounds i’d fancy Princelet in this.

January 18, 2007 at 09:43 #35152Royals Darling would be another of interest as an e/w bet. I really do like Acambo’s chances. Pipe definitely thought he would win last time out and to me he looks a more powerful horse this year.
January 18, 2007 at 10:18 #35153Anyone else raise a smile at David Pipe’s quote regarding plans for Acambo? "If he runs a big race, he’ll stick to hurdling. If he run’s a disaapointing race, he won’t go chasing this year."<br>

January 18, 2007 at 11:57 #35155Joking apart, they’d probably want to preserve novice status with a view to going for an Arkle.
January 18, 2007 at 14:14 #35156Wonder if he learnt from his fathers hash up of Wahiba Sands?
January 18, 2007 at 14:43 #35157Acambo was one of my subs. The other was The Listener.
January 19, 2007 at 09:51 #35158I like the look of Tarlac who will probably run off a nice weight come raceday, possibly still continuing to progress this season and with a trainer with a good record in the race.
January 22, 2007 at 01:12 #35159I’ve had a bit of Royal’s Darling at 16, I like him a lot for the race.
Erm, Rory – experiencing a slight amount of deja-vu perusing those weights; I wonder where did you cut and paste those from?! ;)

January 22, 2007 at 05:55 #35160Surely he’s just showing a bit of initiative?
