I too was on Topless, and don’t recall having done my money in quite so an ‘unlucky’ fashion before but console myself with the fact that I’ve had several very fortunate winners in the past, so just move on and don’t bother crying over spilt milk.
Congrats to doggy Pangbourne. That could well be your one and only win over fences matey

The swerve, from the stand camera at least, wasn’t what you might call ‘drastic’, was it?
I’d like to see it head-on.
January 16, 2009 at 20:29 #204398They did show the head-on immediately after the race. While it was something of a soft unseat, one that Davies should be a little embarrassed about, the swerve by the horse was much more apparent than when viewed from side-on, particularly as the horse was lugging left, then swung right as the jockey tried to correct her. Being so far ahead whether Davies actually needed to bother with the attempted correction is a moot point though.
January 16, 2009 at 20:40 #204406I agree with Equitrack. 99 times out of a hundred the jockey would have remained onboard. I’m not suggesting there was anything untoward going on but clearly the jockey was thinking of things other than his balance. The reason he gave for trying to stop the horse going to the left was a bit of a distraction from his own misjudgement. He could have left things as they were and not been so intent on using his whip to change direction, the horse would still have won. Hopefully, Davies will not be denied other rides because as the ATR commentator said, " I was just about to ask why he doesn’t get more rides from other trainers…."

One syndicate was Dave Nevison and the other was Harry Findlay & Friends according to RP
January 17, 2009 at 14:08 #204611just seen the replay of this, very poor riding, hardly a massive spook and he should have been aware the horse would go away from the whip.
January 19, 2009 at 02:23 #205033Actually, I thought it looked like J Davies was trying to correct the horse going to the left, gave it a slap down the shoulder and the horse shot the other way. Unlucky I’d say, not bad riding.
