despite what was said at the time it seems the top staying chasers are still going to run in next months betfair lancashire chase at haydock, even though the chase course has been dug up and the race will be run on the tight hurdle course over trolly fences.
why couldnt the race be moved to the excellent aintree?
it seems if theres big money on offer trainers will run their horses anywhere.October 29, 2007 at 19:31 #122180Yeah but the Arc’s been ran at Longchamp since 1920.
The Betfair ”Lancashire” Chase will only be ran for the third time this year. So it wouldn’t be a real heavy break from tradition if it were to be moved.
Although, it still has to be said that Haydock offers racegoer facilities (especially viewing wise) which are well up to Group 1 standard.
October 29, 2007 at 19:57 #122183OK now I get you.
I agree completely with that notion and was going to raise that point but you seem to have put it better than I could have.
Though I often wonder what it would be like if Cartmel staged a Group One

It’d be bloody great, it would. I’ll get that Burlington Slate Grand Veterans’ National suitably upgraded yet…

It would put the mockers on it as a "North West Masters" weekend, but to be honest I’d sooner move the race to Doncaster or Wetherby (which I thought rode pretty nicely and still pretty galloping the other day, even after its over-summer modifications shortened the circuit by half a furlong).
Hell, if you want an idea from even further leftfield, give it to Ffos Las when it’s built, given that it’ll be a flat, wide, inviting, 1m5f galloping left-hand oval and a doddle for any Irish runners to get to via Wexford.
Any of those tracks would be more in keeping with the old Haydock from a topographical point of view. Haydock 2007-style is clearly going to ride appreciably sharper than hitherto, and as such arguably not that much less so than the Mildmay (of which, as regular posters will be aware, I am no particular fan).

October 29, 2007 at 22:39 #122214I’ve got an even better idea, don’t laugh though, seeing as they are using portable fences, it doesn’t have to be a NH course does it?
I can see it, hmm, The Betfair Rowley Chase!!!
Why not, he he???
A Gd1 chase over portable fences,…a mockery!!!
October 29, 2007 at 23:08 #122217In the future, they might choose to roll the portable fences onto one of their two flat courses in order to produce the best surface and help ensure the Grade 1 race stays there

For me, the only issue about the race taking place at Haydock is how the fences jump, and three were trialled successfully last season on the back straight, although to my eye they were by no means as demanding to jump as their predecessors.
The provisional card that day sees all the hurdle races being run first, followed by all the chases, then the bumper.
October 30, 2007 at 12:45 #122289Could be worse – could be running Grade 3 chases with no fences like Cheltenham does.
Leave it be – or whack it over the big fences at Aintree
October 30, 2007 at 13:22 #122296It could be moved to Ascot which is on the same day. Huntingdon is also on the same day but the whole card is sponsored by the Tote so presumably they wouldn’t be too happy about the big race of the day being sponsored by Betfair, especially after the £1m bonus for winning the Gold Cup stole some of their thunder last year (very little but still)
November 9, 2007 at 17:54 #123810so far KAUTO STAR,EXOTIC DANCER,MY WAY DE SOLSEN,ACES FOUR OLLIE MAGERN and OUR VIC are said to be going for the betfair chase. it seems that ripping up the jumps course has had no affect on the race infact it shaping up to be the best betfair so far.
if only it was being run on a proper course. - AuthorPosts
