Following on from the ‘Creating Context’ Thistlecrack debate, I’m intrigued to know how the TRF judges would play Toast Of New York on his return from 1000 days off today. He needs to run to 105 to win.
Is he a good 11/10 shot or a terrible one?
FWIW, his trainer reports in the RP that Toast has worked well with 100-rated horses recently, believes he is ‘race fit’ and is even talking about a raid on the Pegasus World Cup ‘if things go to plan’ today. Frankie Dettori has been summoned for a rare all-weather ride.

I dont think the age is an issue really, hes lightly raced which more than makes up for it, hes obviously been wel looked after and they havent rushed him back, slowly got him back into it, i dont see any reason why he couldnt run 19lbs below his best and thats assuming the others run there rating
December 6, 2017 at 13:20 #1330633Well, hard to say that’s still got it, but old Toast still has something.
Did really well to hang on when they started charging at him up the straight there. BPG punters in clover. Interesting SP as well – connections would have known that TONY was still showing 100+ ability (even explicitly said it in the press). Just goes to show that the wise guys sitting at home in their pants playing Betfair actually do shape the markets.
December 6, 2017 at 13:29 #1330636I was comfortable at 11/8 but 2/1 will do nicely, was a good enough return for my liking

Missed the thread but 2/1 looked massive in retrospect. Bounce factor next time out?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
