Happy to be proved wrong but with the absence of Master Minded this Saturday’s Tingle Creek doesn’t look that exciting to me. I know Well Chief is a very good horse as is Big Zeb but I can’t say the race gets me that excited, am I missing something?
December 3, 2009 at 23:33 #262016I feel the same. The Tingle Creek has never really stood out to me because it mostly seems to consist of one or two good horses competing against an average bunch. It reminds me of the Great Voltigeur Stakes on the flat … OK but nothing spectacular.
December 4, 2009 at 00:16 #262020I wouldn’t be too dismissive of the potential quality on show.
Forpady, Big Zeb and Well Chief all have claims for the QM come March, and I wouldn’t be that surprised if the winner came from one of the them.
Master Minded seems to have problems at present and there’s no guarantee he’ll be in top order come the day either.
I’m convinced the form of this race will stand up until March, which makes it a quality renewall, for me, and I look forward to it.

Can’t say I’ve seen many top class chases of level weights where more than 2 or 3 have a realistic chance. 2 Arkle winners in 4 horses in with a realistic chance, what more do you want?
That Master Minded 2008 QMCC performance would make any 2 miler any of us have seen in our lifetime look ordinary. I don’t believe any QMCC bar Dunkirk would have even given him a race that day. Too much too soon perhaps? He still very good but hasn’t looked the quite same since he put up a similar performance in the Victor Chandler. What if he wasn’t around what would we have?:
Well Chief since his comeback would have won the QMCC and the Connaught and to a man we would be saying he was as good as ever. The thing is he most likely is, he certainly hasn’t lost any of his zest for racing and never looked like losing in the Connaght.
Twist Magic never has and never will be a Cheltenham horse but on the right track on the right day he’s as top class as you get.
Big Zeb travels like a top class horse because he is and absolutely oozes class. Granted he’s a suspect jumper and he might be a bit thick but hopefully has learned from his mistakes. He ran Master Minded to a head and was only hacking when he fell in the QMCC plus he would have won the Amazing Thailand Chase in a common canter had he not fallen in that.
Forpadydeplasterer was regarded by many as the best novice hurdler in Ireland. I’m not keen on his trainer who ran him all over the shop last season but fair play to him, he had him spot on for the Arkle. I would not be so quick to question the form either. Ferdy Murphy is no ones fool and he thinks the world of Kalahari King and come March what beats him wins IMO.
In one way or another Master Minded has over shadowed all of these running today but it’s way too early to be saying this is not a first class Tingle Creek. Big Zeb and Forpadydeplasterer are young horses and you may end up looking back in a few years and saying this was a great Tingle Creek.
December 4, 2009 at 06:12 #262024An extract from my post in the ‘Big Race Section’:
———————————————————
They have won ten Grade Ones between them, with only Mahogany Blaze failing to win at the highest level. We have two Arkle winners in the field – Well Chief (2004) and Forpadydeplasterer (2009).
Two Celebration Chase winners – Well Chief (2005) and Twist Magic (2009). The same duo also landed the Maghull Novices’ Chase in 2004 and 2007, respectively.
Well Chief also has a Victor Chandler Chase (incredible weight-carrying performance) and Game Spirit to his name, whilst Twist Magic has a Tingle Creek and Kerrygold Champion Chase to his.
Big Zeb would have arguably won the Kerrygold last April but for belting the last, beating Master Minded in the process.
———————————————————This should be an interesting tactical battle between five solid top level performers.
How can anyone not get excited over the prospect of top class two miler chasers jumping around Sandown? In my opinion, it produces the most thilling National Hunt racing in the country.
December 4, 2009 at 07:30 #262027Agree with that BOSRANIC.
Short on numbers but high on class.
Should be a cracker.
December 4, 2009 at 10:32 #262036I will judge whether the race is top class after the event!Too many imponderables at the moment!Big Zeb 6/4 around Sandown???
Twist Magic the 2nd best 2m chaser imo when it suits him? Well chief ran a cracker in this against "The Moscow Dynamo" years ago?? Mahogany Blaze ran probably his best ever race last time out against Well chief and Master Minded.Very questionable form, bearing in mind he usually finishes a fence behind the Master????.Which leaves Forpadydeplasterer, who i think is a Ryanair Good thing on good ground! He certainly has the ability to test these and as Imperial says if he can make all and wind it up he could take the sting out of Twisties finish!Should still be a cracker!Cant wait!December 4, 2009 at 10:42 #262039With the second and third favourites for the Champion Chase in opposition, together with last years arkle winner, How can it be anything other than top class? If Master Minded were there it would be virtually the champion chase come early! as I can’t see anything else winning come Cheltenham.

Couldnt agree more….
I find the question a bit odd. Not only that its cracking card right through and a good atmosphere at a great track. A day i never miss
Think Fists summary is spot on

Just remember that Ruby was adamant he would have won the Arkle but for falling 2 out, when only a length down!In hindsight he may well think that he would have stopped up the hill Fist! You are quite right though, when you say he is top class on his day!

I would want to take the top two on, if you balance Twist Madics form on soft(they are inspecting) against his sandown form at the price then i would believe the former should reign, imo it wasnt that soft when he beat VPU two years ago and lets be honest VPU’s best form usually comes after the new year.
Big Zeb needs to get the railway fences right or he could be in serious trouble-think this is one of those races where it could pay to do the others in a combFancy Best Actor at Chepstow, ok pp is its form figures this season but he disputed the lead for a long way last time in a much better race at Chepstow and has shot down the weights as a consequence, last year on his debut he took West end Rocker and Shining Gale apart on this sort of ground and could repay a few shekels ew tomorrow
Have a good one
December 4, 2009 at 23:27 #262152I would hardly say Saturday’s card at Sandown is especially cracking considering that it will be run on bad ground, can well see some funny results as there was in the last couple of races today.
December 5, 2009 at 00:16 #262161Might not be top class line up but any race with Well Chief lining up is worth watching in my opinion.
Been robbed of this horses ability for a substained period over the years and there is no doubting he is top class, many forget he’s an Arkle Winner and dual champion chase runner up.
Should win tomorrow with the testing ground likely to hinder Twist Magic.

2mpaddypower.com Tingle Creek Chase (Grade 1) (Class 1) (4YO plus)
Winner £85,530 – 8 ran SoftDecember 5, 2009 at 11:27 #262218I know he’s the most unlikely winner of the field, but surely Magohany Blaze isn’t a 25/1 shot, based on his last 2 runs he should surely be no bigger than around 10’s. I think he’ll hit at least that in running, so I think a free bet will be available on him.
December 6, 2009 at 00:27 #262359Sandown along with Aintree and Doncaster is one of the best courses for 2m Chases.
Good win for Twist Magic as Sandown suits him but expect different results in races like the Desert Orchid at Kempton and the Newbury race which i forget the name of.
December 7, 2009 at 09:30 #262512Are you thinking of the Game Spirit Chase, Neil?
