Was a great race. Gods Own ran well considering his early error
UDS battled back well, 1st run entitled to come on for that. SDG ran another cracker

    conclusion

Douvan will eat that lot for breakfast…… :mail:

Brainless Jonathan Moore, sorry to say that. But Ar Mad was the fastest horse up the hill, after losing about ten lengths after the last of the railway fences and that after setting simply a crazy really pace and presenting the race to UDS.
I’d like to see Ar Mad being held up the next time, he still has an engine imo.

I agree, I think Ar Mad has more to offer then this 4th place might suggest.

It was Josh Moore who was previously 5/5 on the horse. Personally, I don’t think he did anything wrong. Just too big an ask on comeback.

He is the right horse to take from the race. Be nice to think he can prove himself left-handed and show Douvan a trick or two.

Reportedly Moore mentioned the Ryanair for Ar Mad – how serious that was/is I don’t know. He does seem to have some concern about the horse acting around Cheltenham

You do wonder about trainers. Until he tries left-handed who knows but why add in another potential problem of an extra five furlongs?

There was no shame in finishing fourth. He could quite easily turn the tables and that would put him right in the mix for a place in a Champion Chase. I wouldn’t be offering anything more than 16/1.

A cracking race. UDS was game to see off SDG. Maybe the younger legs came to the fore. GO ran a cracker after going through the second, staying on really well. Wouldn’t be surprised if he went Ryanair at the Festival. On decent ground he must have a chance.

Ar Mad also ran a cracker despite the jumping falling apart down the back. He must come on for that.

Great race to watch, and UDS showed great courage to win after fluffing the last two fences. But I don’t think he’s quite the same force he was two years ago; may just be that he’s meeting better horses, but he doesn’t seem to stride out as freely as before

Does UDS winning make Douvan turning up in the King George a bit more likely?
If Mullins believes he’s got the Champion Chase winner in UDS, then why not step Douvan up to a flat 3m and see what happens? Normally I wouldn’t even think of it, but after Vautour last year there is unfinished business for the owner and Mullins. Don’t get me wrong – it’s still imo only a possibility, just a bit more likely with today’s result.

IT WAS A GREAT RACE TO WATCH. UDS RAN REALLY WELL TO WIN FROM LAST 2 MISTAKES. THE OLD BOY SDG RAN A BLINDER. GODS OWEN IMPRESSED ME CONCIDERING THE GROUND WENT AGAINST FOR HIM

AR MAD WAS A REAL EYE CATCHER. COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW CLOSE HE FINISHED CONCIDERING THE MISTAKES HE MADE. AND THE TIME OFF WITH THE INJURY. YES I WOULD DEFINATELY TRY HIM LEFT HANDED. WHAT YOU GOT TO LOSE. IF HE DONT TAKE TO IT YOU GO BACK TO RIGHT HANDED. EVEN SIR VALENTINO STAYED ON REALY WELL

    GREAT RACE

Some perspective needed here imo. He held on all out by a length form a horse who’ll turn 11 in a couple of weeks and another who made up about a five-length deficit from the pond fence and was still closing at the line despite an unsettling blunder at the 2nd.

I know they thought him the second coming not so long ago and he’s a very good horse, but I doubt they’ll be preparing the ribbon right now for the QM trophy and making other plans for Douvan.

It has always been my opinion that Un De Sceaux hasn’t looked quite the same horse since they put the brakes on. Chances are he might not be quick enough for a good ground Champion Chase. It wouldn’t surprise me if under those conditions he ended up in the Ryanair or actually bypassed the Festival.

I might be in a minority of one but I think Douvan still has plenty to prove this season.

They are leaving it late if they are going to run in the KG. I would have thought yesterday would of been the pipe opener if going to tackle that race. UDS was smashed off the boards, Cunningham was saying the money for him was £1000 – £500 punters rather than the five, ten pound ones. The confidence behind it would suggest UDS was primed to go rather than needing the run. He is still entitled to come on for it but I am not convinced by the distances of those beaten behind.

Ar Mad to be heading for the KG in case Thistlecrack doesn’t run. But they seem to be considering it anyway and we’ll see what happens when the final declarations come out.
