Don’t see any good in that ground based on the two chase races run, the first was almost 30s slower than standard although it was an amateur race and unfortunately the next two races (the third of which was a chase) don’t seem to have had any time posted with the result so there could be an issue with the timing process.
Update: They have now changed the going to good to soft (good in places) on the chase course but it looks rather more hard work than that description would suggest
December 2, 2022 at 14:24 #1625390“Yeah i get that nathan, but if heavy doesnt suit, and g/s doesnt suit, what suits? He simply cannot be that fragile, his previous racing tells us this..”
He’s capable of running on any surface
I’m guessing he must be going well at home and is likely to run otherwise with his Cheltenham run you’d think they would start him off with an easier assignment
Henderson will use the going as an excuse to pull him if he isn’t happy with any late worriesGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
December 2, 2022 at 14:39 #1625392Second chase race time is now through and it was 25s slower than standard – the first hurdle race was 26.65s slower than standard and the hurdles course is given as soft, yes because it is over the flat course that gets watered during the flat season so it always tends to be slower than the chase course but times suggest the chase course is much closer to soft than good to soft.
What are the odds Shishkin is a non runner due to the ground being too soft now? Can’t see Edwardstone being withdrawn now though so at least it should be a more interesting contest.
December 2, 2022 at 16:35 #1625403The idea that they watered to maintain good/good to soft may be nonsense looking at them times. Overwatering to accomodate Henderson and King? As a Greaneteen backer i’d have preferred them to have done what they said they would do.
December 2, 2022 at 17:13 #1625406Id agree mike regarding overwatering to suit ticket sales, they NEED shishkin there for the pull he brings
December 2, 2022 at 18:03 #1625409The last thing i was thinking of having in this race was a monster bet in shishkin, but here i am staring at 2.1+ on the exchange, an absolutely mad price all things considered, i can only see two scenarios, a similar fate as cheltenham or he wins by half the track, hes miles better than this field
Edwardstone/GDM etc have no chance, greanateen has no chance if he turns up
Id have him 4/7 for this, id never be laying above evs in this field
What price would energumene be here if he was running instead of shishkin 1/3?
Mad, very rare to have two bets this size in one weekend
December 2, 2022 at 19:14 #1625414The fact that there was no sign of the ‘rare bone condition’ (did we ever get the name of it disclosed?) in the lead up to and on the day of Cheltenham, does this mean that there is the potential for it to rear its head again at any point?.
From what I understand, rest was all that he was given as a treatment (which seems odd but ok) and the explanation as to why it won’t happen again (‘Once the bone has stopped this development in these four identifiable areas, that’ll be the end of it’) seems very ‘vague’ to say the least.
For me it will have to be a watching brief at this stage.
December 2, 2022 at 22:39 #1625433Really like Shishkin, but can’t have him at even money after his performance in the Champion Chase. Greaneteen on the other hand is a Sandown specialist and showed real form in the Haldon Gold Cup. According to Paul Nicholls he is even better now.
Greaneteen 2/1
December 2, 2022 at 23:05 #1625436My main worry for shiskin is that he remembers what happened last time he was in a race
And simply doesn’t fancy it anymore
It took him some time to get past champ on Newbury gallops morning which would also worry me, even assuming champ was fitter than shiskin a 180 2 miler should coast past a 160 3 miler in a gallop
Wouldn’t back him with monopoly money
Happy just to watch
December 3, 2022 at 09:52 #1625475I just can’t warm to Greanteen , Henderson yard is really going well and even if he,s 80% if expect Shiskin to win
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 3, 2022 at 12:03 #1625508Greaneteen for me, albeit in a double with Benson (3.15 Ain)
December 3, 2022 at 12:07 #1625511A big day for Gentleman de Mee catapulted into an open grade 1. I like him, he sort of reminds me of Great Field though not as bonkers. His run last time out was patchy- some jumps were swift and spectacular, some less confidence inspiring. The Railway Fences should be interesting…
He’s the middle leg of a treble for me (Protektorat in the Betfair, BMG in the King George) placed before I knew Shishkin would turn up. Still, if he jumps as well as he can he might be in with a chance.December 3, 2022 at 15:00 #1625563Wd winners. That was impressive.
December 3, 2022 at 15:03 #1625566Well done Spoon and anybody else on, I confess I thought Edwardstone was an OK winner of a not great Arkle and thought he would be shown up in open company but that was very good.
December 3, 2022 at 15:04 #1625567Shishkin just not good enough today. Jumped very poorly and could only hold off Gentleman Du Mee for 3rd.
He will become very expensive to follow, especially if his bone condition will continue to persist.WD winners, winner looked a class above everyone.
December 3, 2022 at 15:09 #1625570Be interesting to see if anything comes out of his run , he just didn’t seem to enjoy himself , he brought back Sprintre Sacre but can he bring Shiskin back ?
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 3, 2022 at 15:16 #1625575Shishkin aiming for a Ryanair now.
