How poorly has she been campaigned this season, shouldn’t she have run in The Guineas? She was/is thought different class to Jacqueline Quest, who Henry didn’t even want to run in The Guineas and surely todays run was an act of desperation albeit a successful one only 12 days after The Oaks. Who knows, if she’d been well campaigned this season she’d be running in the Coronation rather than a handicap this week.
Teddy Beckett even said before yesterdays race that it was quite possible they have been "barking up the wrong tree". He was correct.June 17, 2010 at 04:48 #301367There’s no evidence to suggest that Henry Cecil has misjudged the ability of Timepiece.
She is a well bred, well related filly and will have no problem staying ten furlongs. She was, after all, placed over eleven in the Oaks trial and is a half-sister to Passage Of Time and Father Time.
The latter was once touted as a potential Derby horse before appearing to have his limitations exposed in the Lingfield Derby Trial and a Newmarket Listed event. He would go on to win the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot.
He was far from straight-forward and the same can be said of his little sister – she could have powered Ascot with her tail today.
Passage Of Time would go on to be placed a further three times at the highest level after her Epsom flop.
In my opinion, Timepiece has more ability than we have seen on the track and Henry has mentioned this before.
The Nassau Stakes looks an ideal target.
