Thanks for that, why is it so expensive then? Sounds quite pricey for what it is.

As has been discussed in the other thread, it’s a permanent record of how the season unfolded and the vast majority of readers derive great pleasure from leafing through old annuals many years later. More detail can be found on Timeform’s website, by the way.
September 4, 2006 at 22:24 #76409Thanks for that Grasshopper, i suppose i was just looking for what sets it apart from the other form books on the market because i’m not a serious punter really but do enjoy the sport from a non-betting perspective as well, so it would be good to have a permanant record of how the season unfolded
September 5, 2006 at 00:56 #76410What is the Statistical Review and Ledger could someone please explain what each of these are and if they are worth getting?
September 5, 2006 at 17:00 #76411EC,
You simply do not understand Grasshopper.
Did you miss all the  ‘s and  ‘s?

September 5, 2006 at 18:11 #76412My advice would be to ignore any comments that are personal and stick to the subject matter of the intended post starter.
Grass makes very good points – and if the thread develops into ‘banter’, he is also more than adept at giving & recieving it.
If you take comments personally – then you really shouldn’t – as you say it’s just a username….

Go to:
And from the menu click ‘Products’
Then click ‘Handicap Ledger’ and ‘Trainers Statistical Review’ for explanations. Not much to add other than they’re A4 in size and on the one occasion I bought the Statistical Review I didn’t find it of particular interest or use, though fair enough value for money when sold in conjunction with C&H.
September 5, 2006 at 20:49 #76414Thanks for that… useful information given when toys are put back in the pram.. – insert smiley of your choice – serously thought thanks for opinions!
September 5, 2006 at 21:46 #76415Quote: from Grasshopper on 9:37 pm on Sep. 5, 2006[br]Did Timeform used to bung in the statistical review with the Chasers & Hurdlers as a freebie?
I’m sure I’ve got a couple of copies from the early 90’s, of another (slimmer A5) volume, that came with C&H.
They did indeed though billions of unsold copies languishing at Timeform House to this day are a constant and salutary reminder to Brother Bull’s disciples that the sole reason most buy the annuals is for the dust covers not a poxy leatherette-boxed twosome. Hapiily sanity was restored in ’95.
Sweet Saturday approaches: C&H breaking the floorboards and the last horse in the Leger disappearing into the nether regions of the Knavesmire.

September 6, 2006 at 07:46 #76416Ok guys I’m intrigued by Chasers & Hurdlers after reading the synopsis on Timeform.. Before lashing out 60 sods can someone provide a quick snippet of its contents? I’m not looking for a formbook and I’ve been let down by these types of books before, so extremely dubious
September 6, 2006 at 09:57 #76417For the record EC i did not suggest you are gay ;)
An anorak…well maybe
A not bad way of getting an idea of timeforms style is the "50 to follow" book which is pretty cheap and certainly a good read

September 6, 2006 at 13:47 #76418Timeform usually send out a sampler of the new annual (Racehorses + Chasers and Hurdlers) a few weeks before each annual is published to all customers on their mailing list.
It usually covers around 8 pages directly from the annual and always includes one or two of the long essays on the better horses.
To all those wondering whether or not to buy the annual for the first time, give Timeform a call or email and ask them to send you one.
September 6, 2006 at 14:46 #76419Good advice from Pegwell.
Why not go the whole hog and order a free demo disk of Computer Timeform as well?
A final word about C&H. Not only is it a good read, informative, useful etc. but the book itself is a work of art. Beautifully bound and printed on high quality gloss paper it stands comparison with anything the Folio Society produces; and rather refreshingly is still printed in Wakefield not the far east.

Don’t worry: my first letter of complaint is already in the post. Not only have they rated Mighty Man higher than My Way de Solzen (166 versus 164) but there’s a typing error in the essay on Voy Por Ustedes, at the top of page 981, and an unclosed bracket in the summary of Nyrche, on page 700.
Standards, they are a slippin’
;)
September 7, 2006 at 12:24 #76422grassy – can you do me a photocopy of your copy when it comes. Cheers.
September 7, 2006 at 12:40 #76423Just cannot wait for my copy – I have this bloody door that just will NOT stay open.
