Tidal Bay is on course to make his fifth appeance at the Cheltenham Festival. On its own this is not out of the ordinary, but, it will be Tidal Bay’s fifth different race!

    2011 – Gold Cup
    2010 – World Hurdle
    2009 – Ryanair
    2008 – Arkle
    2007 – Neptune

Can anyone think of any other horses that have run in many more different races? I have War Of Attrition down as competed in four, but I can’t think of many more.

    Anyone?

Go Ballistic just about on a par.

    94 Bumper
    95 Sun Alliance Hurdle
    96 Cathcart
    97,98,99,00,02 Gold Cup
03 William Hill NH Handicap Chase

Foot and mouth of course prevented him from running there in 2001

An old favourite of mine, Dancing Paddy, ran in the Triumph, the County Hurdle twice, the Arkle, the Champion Chase and finally the Grand Annual in the six year period from 1992 to 1997.

So five different races in six appearances – and harder to do then as there weren’t so many races to choose from as now.

I only remember him because he was my first winner (at Fontwell in Jan 1992) after I took the step into full time punting.
