Really fancied Rocco’s Hall, Cara Mara and Ten Fires [along with Smoking Aces] so a bit disappointed that they’re all reserves or not running at all. May back Hangover and Bella Mana Mou ew tomorrow, now.

Going to have a few quid each way on Siegemaster at 28’s.

Did like Rocco’s Hall, but he is a reserve, I think Alpha Ridge has a good shout at 8-1.

Wrote this up at midnight last night:

    Thyestes Chase

    Pomme Tiepy
    1pt @ 5/1

    Agus a Vic
    1pt @ 10/1

As 3rd and 4th in the Paddy Power these two are clearly attractive with recent form in the book. Both have won over 3m and will be staying on from the back provided the jump well enough. I was attracted by my betting blackhole Stewards House but there seems as though therre will be plenty of horses that like to lead and race prominantly. That not only gives SH competition and may put pressure on his jumping but also means he can’t dictate a pace and he looks like a non-stayer but I reckon he could pick up a race over 3m, just probably not this one. Pomme Tiepy has come down the weight a lot since he won 2 G2s on the bounce as a novice both over 3m. He meets a lot of the stats for this race historically and can’t really find much to oppose him with. Agus a Vic is exposed but still has plenty of ability and stays on the same mark from Leopardstown. Another one sure to get the trip, hes only had 6 races outside hunter-chases and looks to be in better form since going handicap chasing.

I also like Telenor but would only consider backing him if there was good money for him before the race.

I like two of the three Mullins horses lining up. Pomme Tiepy and the Midnight Club for me. Pushed, I would prefer the latter as I think this was the horse who caught the eye in these conditions.

Jocking bookings suggest Pomme Tiepy is the stable main threat though and so I shall take a saver on that.

Interesting to see quite a few people having The Midnight Club as a national horse. I am not sure about that, I think he needs more cut than he is likely to get at Aintree.

I’m on Telenor today, few bob e/w at 14’s, in with a shout! Loves the mud and will get this trip!

The Midnight Club is Emmet Mullins’ ride i think, so I wouldn’t say for definte that Townend had a choice.

The Midnight Club for me, no need for the saver!

Bit of a heartbreaker that race for The Midnight Club fans but Grand National hopes remain intact.

Gutted that Bella Mana Mou didn’t hold on to fourth place. Totally ignored Siegemaster, as I’d felt that he was there to keep the weight down for Ten Fires [who I did fancy].

I was livid, because Siegemaster had been one of the first to spring out of the page at me, and I’d long been impressed by his ability to carry big weights. Instead, I looked for dangers among the lower weights.

I’d just like to take a moment to give credit to a
great performance by siegemaster and Davy Russell,Russell had the horse up at the business end early but then decided to switch the horse off and drop him back and settle into a rhythm and save a bit for the finish.
He timed his run excellently and then both horse and jockey did well to hang on from a fast finishing midnight club, i may be just talking through my pocket as i had a few pound on would like to know what neutrals have to say!?

Paddy Flood on who do you think was unbelievably strong in the finish today also-what an under rated jockey in my eyes!

I haven’t seen the race yet but I like Paddy as the jockey of the late Schindlers Hunt and Davy is well known as one of the best jockeys about.

Edit: I think Davys decision was good in retrospect. The horse doesn’t look the most fluent jumper (he just does enough), he knocked the first, and the fact all the leaders came back to the pack very quickly (after Alpha Ridge looked like he had them at it) makes it look a good decision that he got him settled in. Regarding Midnight Club, I think he’d have held him over another furlong.

In the earlier race Paddys hands and heels ride was superior to the rest and I think he’d have won on either of the first 2 home.
