An early contender for thread of the year 2021?

Not sure if the level of analysis is as strong as on the juvenile thread mind you. If there was vote rigging going on at the hands of yours truly, then would I not have more votes in the poster of the year poll? Certainly more than the four which half the current margin of the juvenile thread… For what it’s worth, I voted for the thread I nominated, but I think any of those nominated would be a very worthy winner and I am flattered that the thread to which I generally contribute is thought to be of the same cloth.

In truth, I am perplexed that I have been considered sufficiently interesting for the attentions of tank. I am going to break a habit of ignoring tank’s stalking which I have maintained for at least five years now I think… It hasn’t been maintained in the sense of “do not feed the trolls”. Rather, and I actually feel quite haughty for saying this, it is complete indifference. If whatever animosity you hold towards me is sincere (and I am not sure that it is), then I truly wish you well and hope you are able to find peace because nobody can be happy carrying that kind of bitterness with them for so long. If it is a source of infantile amusement on your part then have at it. I have given you a link to the time portal that is the wayback machine where I am sure you will be able to dredge countless items with which you can continue in your impotent vendetta.

The following “confessions” will be for the benefit of those who have not been here forever, or do not live for internet drama, but might be curious as to what Tank might be going on about.

I first started posting on theracingforum when I was not far off my half my current age, under the pseudonym of Kotkijet after the French steeplechaser. In that age of the internet, anonymity was still the assumed norm and that the characters one saw on the internet likely bore little correlation to the people behind them. Although this is not to say that the person behind Kotkijet was not a bit of a loose cannon. He was. Having been distracted with young person’s life for a bit, I figured I would set the stage for a return to posting with the clone “Paddy The Paddy”. Bear in mind that I was generally drunk most of the time and although I would be embarrassed to do such a thing in this day and age, I have been able to forgive a long gone version of myself while wholeheartedly accepting that I would likely find early twenties me insufferable. Paddy The Paddy’s exposure came shortly after Kotkijet’s triumphant return and that was that.

The late 00’s saw a waning interest in the whole racing and internet thing as well as a bit of a calamitous time on a personal level. Kotkijet lay dormant and after rediscovering my zest for the sport, decided to come back. However, having forgotten the login details, I decided to go with Bachelors Hall. The name chosen because he was the first interesting horse I discovered from my first ever encounter with a pedigree page which belonged to Arbeo. Having been afforded the cloak of a stranger, I thought about playing the needle but being something close to an adult, it got very very boring very very quickly and I dropped the pretence before too long. Incidentally, I still find Frankie Dettori distasteful, and Claire Balding tedious, but their nationalities and sexualities have never been an determining factor. Furthermore, I am sure that the latter is a nice person and given that I now watch very little racing programming either side of the race itself, I would be fine with her on the screens.

In terms of Kotkijet/Bachelors Hall, I post on two other horsey places. On one, my name is Kotkijet with an avatar of Bachelors Hall, on another, my name is Bachelors Hall with an avatar of Kotkijet.

As for me, I don’t believe I have claimed anything of myself which was not, at the time at least, true to the best of my understanding. Indeed, I have not claimed much about myself over the past few years in any case. My name is Simon and while my nationality is as intrinsic to my identity as my star sign, I am northern English in the broadest sense. I have some affinity with Bosnia (of which I have never gone into detail), but my name is not Sejad and I only used that during an argument with Gingertipster over his accusation of homophobia based on my possibly being from the Balkans – as a means of playing up the irony. I have knowingly met one person from here and unless someone from the yards recognises my style then I don’t believe if anybody else in the real world knows of me on here.

Oh, I was also very briefly Mačakev Dvor (Bosnian for Bachelors Hall) because I really really wanted to win poem of the year with “Horsey Horsey Horse”. Unfortunately, Nathan really really really wanted to win that contest even more which is why he chose to force a recount instead of magnanimously sharing the prize. I have not wrote another poem since then. Also, contrary to Nathan’s staunchly held belief, I have not been responsible for any of those dissertation questionnaires. The most telling evidence would be that those surveys were all sh‎it.

I think that covers just about everything so I will return to generally sticking to matters that are actually interesting.

Methinks the gent doth protest too much. Well done for getting a few things off your chest, though, and admitting pretending to be from Bosnia, complete with name. Maybe you’ll get round to more in the future? You’ll feel better for it ;-)

I’ve not looked at your link. May do later, but probably not. If you think that I’ve stalked you, then you’re barmier than I thought. I just don’t like you.

Ah, here was the last time I spoke to you. It wasn’t five years ago, it was six years and five months ago. You just got banned from this place for the umpteenth time, and one of your first posts at the other place was directed at me with an unnatural amount of familiarity for a newcomer.

    https://www.talkinghorses.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?20171-Netanyahu-s-victims&p=580872&viewfull=1#post580872

For the record, not once have I said I am Bosnian. Even in that very post I am referencing, I describe my then fiancé as Bosnian, and myself as Northern.

That you “just don’t like” me harms you infinitely more than it harms me. That you need to create lies in your own mind to justify animosity towards a complete stranger is quite sad to see. I would ask you to stop lying about me, but to be honest, anybody who would believe you would not be someone whose regard I would particularly care to favour.

Unless you have something interesting to say about horse racing, this is the last bit of energy I will be expending on your unrequited antipathy. For your sake, and for the sake of those who love you, I hope you are able to let go of your bitterness.

The haunting tones of Charles Aznavour filled my bed chamber this morning and went some way to remove some of the jade caused by my teeth sinking the last of my Xmas spirit in the early hours. I am just up and am sipping my second tea before I take my sensitive frame into a cold shower to batter it, and so am sitting in my blue M&S robe – it has to be towel – enjoying the sun rays filtering through the large expansive pane to my right.

Life is sweet – this thread is a gem and a detective’s dream – bringing together the two warring forces of harmony and discord of which splash posters like myself have fought fiercely over decades to retain.

Sorry I mistook you for being from Bosnia, Simes, I should have realized that Sejad was a perfectly normal name for a scouse lad to use. And thanks for the link to the other place. I’d forgotten about your pretendy Bosanik fiancée – you originally called her girlfriend in your post above, but have changed it to fit in with what you called her over there – Anyway, don’t forget my invite to the pretendy wedding

Bach, you are quite right that I wanted to win the poem contest
but I would also have happily lost it
I’m not over keen on draws or joint winners in finals of things, I like an outright winner
It was a nice touch of you to nominate everyone who posts on the TRF as poster of the year but again I wasn’t keen, I’m not sure why, I think a winner needs to win. It would be like if Vtc after winning poster of the year for the 27th time in a row said he wanted to pull out and for example if by chance I won, it wouldn’t feel like a win but charity.
Anyway well done with your Juvenile thread and all work you have put into it, it is a masterpiece and something the TRF should be proud of.

Yes, many people like your thread, Simes, and I believe you’ve won thread of the year before with similar.

You should stick to that and cut out all the fantasy bullshit – imo

I would agree this is a forum for horseracing Simon and the lounge, where I am accustomed to write, was added as an appendage rather than a mainstay. I never feel very comfortable writing here when I am out of the game, as now, and although not fraudulent it feels slightly unworthy.

Thank you for that giant all revealing post explaining your two metamorpheses. I share some similar experiences to you in that I was also accused of vote rigging by Ricky Lake when I Won the big one. That particular year 2013 my mother died in August ( my father the year previous) and I had been caring for them and wrote for the first time in September. It was welcome and total escapism for
me and a rabbit hole to flee down away from the grief. I probably wrote more in those four months, mostly in the lounge, than most do in a year but it did help me through the process of loss. Betlarge ( Mike) was the racing man I was mostly up against and who was probably preferred by the ‘ racing fraternity ‘ There was an hour or so when the site went down for a couple of hours but then it came up an hour before the end. There was a bit of controversy about that and then Lake chipped in that I was an unworthy winner – I think the margin was three votes if memory serves. I offered another vote between the two of us but the gent that Mike was, was OK with everything. It was quite an achievement for a lizard to win but all the flak rather tarnished the whole affair for me. Also the record of my win was airbrushed from the Archive section for many years. Then it appeared again as if by magic but not in sequence and the years 2014 upwards predominated for many years. I was amused by this rather than miffed thinking my win night have shaken the hard core. Oh dear I think my post is long too, and I have only just got going…

As for poem of the year I like you was caned into second with my very very long poem ” The Fly ” but that year there was an independent judge who declared someone else the winner. I also entered a short poem ‘ Cheltenham Hill ‘. I very much liked ‘the Fly’and was fairly happy with second place. But I must say I do like the fact you wanted to win.

:mail: falling numbers on boards like these are due in part to people wanting more control of who they might want to engage with. Healthy debate can soon turn and anonymous posters feel free to write with more poison. I have always craved the tag of anonymity not just for me but for liberating others. I think there has been a move away from anonymity. Reading abuse or being abused can put people off writing or it may have little or the opposite effect. If reactions to posts are predictable ot too respectful you may have a sterile or boring board. It is a difficult balance. I personally like people to speak their minds and their true feelings on boards rather than bottle up or go with the flow. Tank and Kotikjet of old are of the former genre – outspoken and taking no prisoners.
When Tank states he doesn’t like you BH it is of course refreshingly honest, but very limiting, because it is unlikely you BH will engage with him much.
As for me I do not think I have had such strong feelings as dislike, but I have seen dislike exhibited. Jim JTS, Cormack15 and Tooting had a complete aversion and dislike of Ian Davies. Tooting described him as a fat Toad Jim described him as a log and Cormack had few friendly words and kept a distance. As I did not dislike any of the four and considered Davies a good sort it gave me mixed emotions but this never ever boarded on dislike of them or in fact any poster. I think the fact I was an anonymous name helped.

Kotijket….a young man and yes you had a limp and unusually for a vegetarian did a stint at MacD. You had strong opinions and gave interesting commentaries about your life events. Different times of course back then

    Paddy the Paddy
I can only remember the “drip of days” thread, which I called it, which persisted in the main racing section for 30 days and I could never understand Daylight’s persistence with it. Far far worse than the mind bending Word Association thread that caused Razeen to sacrifice his online for. It was similar to the old Mothers Pride ad –

” Something is coming to London next month that everyone is going to love ”

and they showed a box that opened to reveal nothing inside. Must have seen this boring ad fifty times until a month later we saw the even more boring loaf of bread materialise to an anxiously awaiting city.
I don’t think Paddy the Paddy posted much after that and was a short time poster.

Bachelor’s Hall… Was different to Kotkijet in being far more balanced but was in the same way very revealing on a personal level. I found him hugely interesting. As time went by he transformed himself into such an erudite poster and of such quality it was almost hard to fathom and really at a peak not eclipsed by any other.

…I’ll take a break of sorts :mail:

such an erudite poster and of such quality it was almost hard to fathom and really at a peak that possibly had not been reached by any other

Agreed: I’ve little interest in juvenile hurdlers and suspect that they’re viewed as NH’s poor infant relation by many if not most, which makes BH’s encyclopaedic knowledge and keen interest in this niche area all the more worthwhile

Terrific, diligent work largely wasted on here I reckon; and would be better off being published on a pay-per-view website or as hard copy

Given that it’s 20 years-or-so since TRF appeared perhaps it’s time to initiate the gong that wakes has-beens from their slumbers: the ‘lifetime achievement award’… over to you Nathan

BH ain’t no has-been but his thread must be up there with the best contributed to the horsey board

I think it would be a good time for the lifetime achievement award as the last one was 5 years ago, perhaps every 5 years such an award could take place
I’ll start a nominations thread on the horse board soon.

    Gamble’s Confession.

Gamble…” Bless me father for I have sinned and not wanting to sound biblical it has been donkeys years since my last confession.”

    Father (Subdueing mirth)
” Pray continue my son ”

Gamble…” Its been a long time Father and well, erm technology has moved on and I am of a shy nature and of late slightly paranoid. Father can you promise me there is no-one else in there with you, and I speak to you and you alone and there are no hidden devices ?”

Father…” There are only two listening; Your priest and Our Lord ”

    Gamble…” That’s what I was afraid of ”

    Click

Drone apologies I edited my last post slightly but as for your suggestion to elevate BH to the status of sainthood I would be behind you on that as long as it doesn’t remove all the petrol in his tank, or we lose our tank as a forfeit.
