Good morning all.
Slightly later than had originally been hoped but here we are again with this weeks offerings.
I will begin with the Buick Invitational which this year has a very open look to it with Tiger continuing his rehab.
As in previous weeks those at the head of the market command there usual respect but for one reason or another will again be passed over.
Main Selection.
As with last week first port of call will be Hunter Mahan, whilst it’s fair to say i expected a little more from him last week now that the arms are hopefully a little looser i am prepared to give him another shot once again a prominent showing i hope will be forthcoming, whatsmore he has a reasonable if not spectacular record here in the past.
Next Best.
Tricky this but i have decided on Brandt Snedeker purely for reasons above in that he too has performed with a degree of credit here before, here’s hoping that can continue here.
Longshots.
A couple here, firstly one who will figure more often than not i feel this year for me, after plodding his way around last week here’s hoping that Kevin Streelman can post a more prominent showing, the same comment also applies to my final choice here, as with Kevin Streelman i noticed that JJ Henry had his best showing for sometime last week if he can build on that then who knows.
Some of my usual suspects were passed over this week quite reluctantly i have to add so it goes without saying that if either Bubba Watson or Lucas Glover were to oblige one i will only have myself to blame and secondly the missing persons bureau will be on standby again
, seriously though it will not come to that, we have been doing this far to long to realise that occassionally someone you do will come back to haunt you the time you don’t back them.Ok onto the belated return of the Ladies and the ANZ Masters and i must first of all say what a cracking turnout, secondly as it is played on Australia’s Gold Coast here’s hoping a pot makes it my way
.Ji Yai Shin is a very worthy favourite and is i feel set to take high rank on both Tours this year and along with several others who burst onto the scene last year coupled with the seasoned campaigners will be more than keen to take up the baton vacated by the now retired Annika Sorenstam in pursuing Lorena Ochoa, Lorena dear i have a feeling that you won’t have things your own way this year
, so she will now go ahead and wipe the board with everyone to prove me wrong
Ok for the purpose of this week and i will be more than happy to take Ji Yai on.
Main Selection.
No surprises really as it’s an Aussie but not Karrie Webb despite her outstanding record in this particular event being a Six times winner but i could not help but think that last year maybe there were signs that maybe her best days were beginning to be behind her, i hope i’m wrong and i would not begruge her another victory but also at the odds no thanks.
Katherine Hull will be my main source of interst here, having burst onto the scene in the latter stages of last year here’s hoping that 09 starts on a positive note.
Next Best.
When the odds finally began to filter through yesterday my first impression was blimey what a good price, ok she has yet to perform to her standards set last year in the highest grade, but you feel that at somepoint that will happen, so as with Katherine Hull here’s hoping that 09 starts on a positive note for Gwladys Nocera.
Melissa Reid is next up to the plate, great things were expected of her last year not least by me although she did not do to bad she is certainly in my opinion capable of better and as i have had a dabble on the Ladies European Order Of Merit along with Anja Monke as a couple of viable alternatives to Gwladys Nocera i’m hoping that she can have a good year and what better way to start than triumphing here.
Longshot.
Given the price i would not call it a big longshot but my final throw of the dice here will be wth another Aussie in the shape of Anna Rawson who i feel might surprise a few of her more illustrious counterparts this week, one things for sure she will i feel win the best Hat Award, so as with the others here’s hoping she can Cap it off
with a strong bid for glory.Well that will do it for me so as always The Best Of Luck to everyone.
Cheers.
Adrian.
February 4, 2009 at 15:38 #208106Good luck to everybody betting on the golf this week and well done to Adrian for selecting Kenny Perry to win the FBR Open and also to Aaronizneez for selecting Kevin Na who was placed.
Only one men’s golf event for me to bet on and the
Buick Invitational
takes place in California on the pga tour and this tournament has been dominated by Tiger in recent years. No Tiger this week obviously with Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington disputing favouritism and the odds of 12/1 on offer for both of them may look generous on sunday evening as either could win this without playing at their best as the field for this event does not look strong in my opinion.
However big Phil missed the cut last week at Scottsdale and Padraig has not played this event before so I will leave them out of my selections.
Instead I am betting onCharles Howell III
who finished 4th in Hawaii last month and has a good record at this course with a couple of runner up finishes in the last 4 years.
Another player who has played well here previously isLuke Donald
and he has taken a while to regain his form after injury but played well last week at Scottsdale in the final 3 rounds after a bad first round so I think he is worth a bet.
I remember that this was the event thatBrandt Snedeker
first got himself noticed on the pga circuit when he shot 61 in the first round in 2007 and ended up finishing 3rd. He is a player who is difficult to predict but has ability and I’m hoping he will get back to winning ways at this event.
My other selections areJohn Senden
who looks good value at the odds of 108/1 that I obtained on BF as he has started the year well with a 9th and 17th place in his previous two events and I think that
Aaron Baddeley
is also worth an interest.
The ladies event this week is the
ANZ ladies Masters
in Australia and I am betting on
Katherine Hull
to continue the improvement she showed last season and I reckon that
Hee Kyung Seo
is worth backing as she played very well in her native country of S/Korea last season where she won some tournaments.
Happy punting

February 4, 2009 at 17:58 #208121Just concentrating on mens golf at the moment so just the one tournament this week.
I’m putting the mockers on
Charles Howell III
I’m afraid Pete for the same reasons as you quoted. Second choice is
Ryuji Imada
who was runner up last year behind Tiger.
Of the outsiders I’m sticking with
Kevin Sutherland
who played reasonably well last week and who has done well here in the past,
Nathan Green
who is a past runner up and lastly at big odds
Brandt Jobe
who played his best golf for ages last week after his catalogue of unfortunate injuries.
Good luck all
