Have just watched this film. Has anyone else seen it? I went through the following emotions as I watched..
January 5, 2008 at 22:26 #133582Not in that order
January 5, 2008 at 23:12 #133588it was good in that order crizzy….made sense

sorry I’ve not seen it, not my cuppa – grim?
January 6, 2008 at 00:40 #133595So Crizzy,
Does this mean it was good, bad or ugly. You won’t make a film reviewer will you
.To be honest, I’ve never even heard of the film – what’s it about, who’s in it etc?
Mike
January 6, 2008 at 04:01 #133599Thomas Turgoose had never acted before, had been banned from his school play for behaving badly and even demanded £5 to turn up for the film’s auditions.
But apparently a change in diet from chips and coke to healthy alternatives also changed his whole attitude – and to the good.

Not my sort of film I have to say – it’s depressing
January 6, 2008 at 10:45 #133624Yes, it is depressing and I couldn’t concentrate on match nof the day after! I usually try and avoid this sort of film but the violence and language seemed apt considering what the film is about. (skinheads in the 80’s). Having said that, some of them (Woody for one) were actually decent people who cared for the young boy and he played the part brilliantly. Ithink I just felt for the young lad as he was missing his Dad (killed in the Falklands).
God, listen to me. It’s only a film
Worth a watch though. Barry Norman I aint Mikky!January 6, 2008 at 11:07 #133626Good to see it’s not just a one off for the young actor.
He’s gone on to do a few other things as well which is excellent as I’d say prior to this film he was in the fast lane to jail
‘Crizzy Norman’ has a certain ring to it I think

Worth a watch though. Barry Norman I aint Mikky! It’s my type of film that Crizzy. Not that I am into violence and bad language or anything, but I love English films about the 80’s and the punks, skinheads etc.
I was a kid during this period and my older brother was mod and my sister was a punk lol. The stories that they tell me about however, I would love to see what really happened.
Is it a new film, is it available on Box Office, DVD etc?
Cheers Crizzy,
Mike
January 6, 2008 at 15:34 #133694I think it’s quite new. The bloke in Blockbusters recommended it. (Didn’t think I looked the violent type!!) So I suppose it will be on box office sometime but if you think you night like it I suggest you go and rent it Mikky. It’s well worth a watch (maybe not cuddled up and cosy on the sofa with your girlfriend
) Put on some Doc Martin’s, a Ben Sherman shirt and some braces open a few tinnies and brace youself. If you could tot up the amount of times the words ****, ****, w****r are said I will be impressed. It was funny cos last night after we had watched it, my wife (who very rarely swears) said (for a cheap joke) "Right you ****, I’m going up to bed" Funny at the time cos the film was quite sad.
Let me know if you get a copy Mike.January 6, 2008 at 17:46 #133729I made a point of going to see this Shane Meadows film on its release – especially having already seen his brilliant Dead Man’s Shoes.
There were about 20 people in the cinema when I saw This Is England. Very good film. Newcomer, Thomas Turgoose, was brilliant as Shaun.

January 11, 2008 at 17:03 #134637big fan of Shane Meadows who would seem to be the most talented director these isles have produced for some time
The film is superb. Apart from the startling perfromances, it cleverly handles a difficult subject without being judgemental and preachy (imagine this subject in Ken Loach’s hands….)
it is also very funny and quite moving
Not much more you could ask for
January 27, 2008 at 22:05 #138288shane is from my town originally, I did not like the film much the best film is DEAD MANS SHOES now that is quality
Next film should be good on Bartly Gorman ‘kibg of the gypsies’ I know one of his lads, should be good
January 27, 2008 at 23:09 #138301apparently it can be downloaded from file-sharing websites such as mininova or so i have been told
a depressing film imo, i won’t watch it again
3.10 from yuma – very good western, not that i downloaded it or anything else
January 27, 2008 at 23:56 #138312Of course you didn’t Simon
……… neither did I
February 4, 2008 at 13:03 #140095Anyone watching The South Bank Show awards last night (feb 3rd) will have seen Shane Meadows collect the award from Robert Carlyle for best film (This Is England).

February 11, 2008 at 17:24 #142318I see this is now on Sky Box Office, so I will definitely watch it in the next few days – preferably when the g/f is not here – as it’s not a Pretty Woman or Dirty Dancing type of film, I’m not sure she will like it
