The R.P rpeorted 2 massive bets on the Ryder Cup a punter in Tyne and Wear was reported to have had a bet of £247grand and the same customer had a further 100k again on the Yanks with William Hills and a Weybridge internet client had £41,185.52 ( maybe thats all he had) on the Europe side again with Hills.
Are these bets real or just a way of getting the bookies name in the R.P.
I was turned down a bet of £300 last year with the same firm (I was offered £100 at 5s and another £100 at s.p.)
My account with them had been profitable but not to an extent to cause them any worries how come they seem to take these massive bets yet trim back bets with a liablity of £1,500.
September 25, 2006 at 09:20 #77767Did you see the blatant publicity stunt by Hills on saturday referring to the punter who won an accumulator on frankie’s seven?
"Hills were kind enough to pay above their max liability of 500k" They made the guy hold up a big cheque with their name emblazoned across the top..
September 25, 2006 at 09:37 #77768I believe the Weyhill one may be authentic!!

September 25, 2006 at 09:39 #77769Seagull,
£41,185.52 to some of the people in Weybridge – especially the St Georges Hill area – would be pocket money. I believe there are some heavy hitters connected with the football profession that like to play with these sort of large bets.
Would be interested hear if anybody knows the answer though Seagull.

They will take millions of pounds of you if they know your mug. Terry Ramsden is proof of that with regards to ladbrokdes who had appointed someone to specically look after his account while he drove himself into the ground. But generally its hard to believe most of these are not publicity stunts.

September 25, 2006 at 12:55 #77771Terry Ramsden is an interesting one.Even though he was losing millions on the horses he was making tens of millions on Japanese derivatives.
Despite taking millions from him Ladbrokes had him warned off for unpaid debts.
Can still remember the buzz when he would appear with McCrirrick saying he had just backed one of his for bundles.
September 25, 2006 at 20:19 #77772It’s all relative I guess. They’ll lay you £10,000 on one if you’re having monkey reverse forecasts traps 1 and 6 through the card at Brough Park. If you only ever pop in the shop for a snide each-way bet or to arb on a pricewise horse then they’re entitled to tell you to stuff off.

September 25, 2006 at 21:06 #77773£50 tops if its pricewise and they are top priced (which is very rare in the case of William Hills’)
September 26, 2006 at 20:16 #77774Hello all,
Long time since I’ve been on here…!
You don’t say what your £300 @ 5-1 was on Seagull, but I suspect it wasn’t a major golfing event! There is a massive trading difference between the book of the Ryder Cup and the 2.40 on a wet afternoon at Musselburgh.
The majority of big publicized bets you will hear about will be on massive events with few outcomes, i.e. a football match, cricket, golf etc. They will be big stakes at small odds and, as matron suggests, mainly by people used to playing with those sums of money anyway. ÂÂÂ
The majority of people who have bets refused are, as Mounty points out, usually on a Pricewise or gamble, bad each way races or arbs. No matter how smart or quick they think they are being, there is certainly a whole load of other people also trying to pile on! It’s not about restricting individuals, it’s about balancing your book and, as I said above, that very much depends on the event.
I would be exceptionally surprised if the Hills PR department sat around making up random bets and random locations! Ask Graham Sharpe if those bets are real and you will get a very rude reply…..!
September 26, 2006 at 21:04 #77775last year i closed my labrokes account because they refused my bet on england in the ashes knocking off the aussies secand innings total off ,i only wanted a £500.00 bet on
Thats some joke Perpetual.I used to get the slow treatment with Boyles -I no longer bet with them. These days 90% of my business is with betfair -the rest with VC.
September 27, 2006 at 11:06 #77779I’d say there’s every chance that these punts are real – all firms have their elite customers who get as much as they want, on what they want.
These type of punters cannot be reconciled with your average Joe punter as they are so far removed from them. While the rest of us (who have to hang on for 5 mins on the phone to Laddies while they refer every single bet  ) aren’t going to get these type of bets but those who punt in large amounts like that on a daily basis will be laid.

September 27, 2006 at 13:12 #77780…as long as they repeatedly do their b0ll0cks
September 27, 2006 at 20:04 #77781You’d be surprised, Glen! Although of course when the big hitters lose it’s on a far larger scale than anyone else.
September 27, 2006 at 20:51 #77782I’m 95% certain who the punter is, and also that he had a bigger bet turned down with another major firm.
