“Well, don’t think I’ll be contributing to this thread anymore given that nonsense post by me above.”
That would be a shame – it was a courageous call at a big price.
It was a crazy first half – few predicted Brazil would be two up before you could blink or four up by the interval.
South Korea at least posed a goal threat and scored second half, even if Brazil had taken their foot off the pedal by then.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 6, 2022 at 20:45 #1626092Quite some turnaround from Spain, they gave out a 7-0 thrashing in the first match and today were unable to find the net in two hours plus the shootout.
My inability to predict just about anything however remains a constant.
December 6, 2022 at 20:49 #1626094If I was a Swiss player on the bench I’d have said: “just nipping to the loo” early second half, got me gear out the changing rooms, quietly exited the stadium, got a cab to the hotel for the rest of me stuff, another cab to the airport, stocked up with as much toblerone and cheese fondue as I was allowed at Duty Free and be on a flight to Geneva by stoppage time.

You have to fear for Morocco if Portugal bring that to the quarter finals. They’ll have put a lot into that today and don’t get that long off.
Very odd that they actually play each other before England and France who have already had two days off.
December 6, 2022 at 21:00 #1626098Switzerland were very poor. I think any of the remaining teams would’ve put 6 goals past them.
December 6, 2022 at 21:30 #1626103Portugal are good, but not that good; the value bet in the next game will be Morocco or draw

December 6, 2022 at 22:01 #1626108For Chezza, it’s a pork & clams versus lamb tagine and cous cous thing.
Portugal have so got this.
Fish and chips in deep trouble against Coq Au Vin on Saturday, I fear.

Very much agree, Portugal were in cruise control after an hour, Morocco were all out for two hours and it’s a short turnaround.
It’s Port vs mint tea and ale vs vin rouge in the drinks department.
Port cleans up in 90 minutes and I’m still backing ale to take it to extra time.
December 6, 2022 at 22:11 #1626110Spain are infuriating; so much talent, yet so indirect, could have been putting balls into the box and something would have fallen for them. Same thing happened to them in Euros last year

I hope you’re right, Richard – 2-2 in normal time is 18 at Betfair Exchange!

Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 9, 2022 at 09:34 #1626308It’s been a long two days without World Cup football but the serious stuff starts now.
Interestingly*, after the discussion about group stage form, of the five unbeaten teams, the maximum four made it through to the quarters (two played each other). All four are outsiders in their respective ties to reach the semis.
Yes favourite only means ‘most likely outcome’ not ‘will win’ but I don’t think anyone can really dispute who the favourite is in each case.
I think it underlines the case that the objective is to get out of the group. Preferably by winning, just ask Spain who ended up with the ‘easy’ route by coming second.
*Term used loosely

December 9, 2022 at 21:09 #1626365Argentina Netherlands. No words really.
December 10, 2022 at 01:16 #1626386The long ball is back!!!! The Dutch were hopeless for 75 mins, then started lamping it forwards.
Nerveless free-kick thoT
he better teams, Brazil/Spain have to become more direct and try to win it in 90 mins rather than letting it go to penalties -
