No but you should pay us!
June 6, 2006 at 15:33 #73078Isn’t this thread as pointless as the one started by Jackane about a cock-up in the Racing Post on Lockinge day. Hardly end of the world stuff is it. And highly amusing when you get the venue wrong FSL.
What’s the saying, ‘People in Glass House’s shouldn’y throw stones.’

You mean SHOULDN’T throw stones DJ? I just think its disappointing that such glaring errors are made when they are trying to compete with The Racing Post.

July 20, 2006 at 15:05 #2775In adminstration today.
July 20, 2006 at 15:23 #73703Slightly quicker than expected then….it is a genuine pity.
July 20, 2006 at 15:38 #73704Poor layout, some awful writers and no target audience .. inevitable.
It is a pity though as I liked some of their racing columnists, and the four horsemen have probably been the best tipsters of the last few months.

July 20, 2006 at 15:42 #73705A real shame.
July 20, 2006 at 16:05 #73706Very hard for any publication to recover if they do not hit the ground running. Either that niche market is there from the beginning or it isnt…
July 20, 2006 at 16:12 #73707Seems the sportsman management doesn’t like it up em – truth hurts imhaho

July 20, 2006 at 18:38 #73709I took one look at a free copy in Joe Corals once, and I thought it was awful.
I couldn’t get on with the layout and text, so actually reading any of it was never an option for me.
The racing post isn’t much better now either.
Bring back the sporting life, that’s what I say.
July 21, 2006 at 01:34 #73710First impressions last. I thought the front page sucked from a design perspective. If people don’t like the front page, they won’t pick up the paper.
I think the main problem was that it was trying to be a jack of all trades. Covering a lot of sports, none so concisely that a fan of that sport would be excited enough to buy the paper.
Imagine buying a copy of the Sunday Mirror just because you like the crossword. Same thing.
I wouldn’t buy a paper for a few paragraphs coverage of my chosen sport, those paragraphs also detracting from the coverage of the mainstream stuff – their core audience. They should have conentrated on the mainstream only ie. Racing, Greyhounds and Football and a good results/scores section.
Someone here said that their results layout also sucked.
July 21, 2006 at 17:21 #73711The Sportsman 2006-2006 RIP :(
"No real passion and no real vision"
I’ve put today’s Indo and Telegraph Administration reports in the Todays Papers thread for the record if anyone is interested.
