……….so please, connections of The Listener, do NOT take him out of the Gold Cup. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!!!!!
March 6, 2008 at 10:34 #148730I looked yesterday at around 5:30pm and The Listener was out to 359/1 on betfair. Share your sentiments Kendal but not much hope i’m afraid.
There looks to be a hell of a lot of rain coming, weather that is right I don’t know but get on now Halcon Genelardais ew for the Gold Cup at 33/1, he won’t be half that come D-Day if it is soft. Exotic Dancer is worth the risk too at 16/1, both WH.

Value Is EverythingMarch 6, 2008 at 10:44 #148731So a horse who doesn’t get the trip is going to get it if it rains and conditions become more testing…and he’s going to beat Denman who ate him alive in the Lexus…..I gotta pack this sport in I think I’m going nuts

As Luca Cumani once said – "All horses stay the distance, some just stay it a lot quicker than others"

Cumani actually made his famous quotation after Barathea had failed to get home in the Derby.

Are you basing your view on one run in last years falsely run Gold Cup? The Listener has already won 3 times over 3 miles or more and twice on heavy ground.
His jockey was far too conservative on him against Denman in the Lexus and should have taken him on far far earlier.
The Listener is class but we are never going find out this side of the Irish Sea at this rate.
March 6, 2008 at 20:57 #148823Sorry mate can’t agree with you at all…had every chance against Denman and if you can’t get the trip in a slow run race you sure as hell wont get it in a fast run race………your obviously a big fan of the horse as i am in the right conditions…..the Gold Cup is way beyond him IMO……plus Kauto would give him a stone on over three miles on any ground

It hardly matters, Ken. It could pi*ss down until Wednesday night, and it would still be quick by the Friday.
The track drains quicker than a sailor’s wallet in a whorehouse, and there is no chance whatsoever of the word "Heavy" appearing in the going description on the Friday – not even if you see Noah’s Ark parked on top of Cleeve Hill on the Thursday night.
March 7, 2008 at 00:05 #148856Where did "High Ken" come from?.You sprung to mind the other day when
I was thinking of a spoiler for the inevitable scenario
March 7, 2008 at 19:03 #148963Its a major worry , I actually agree with FOF , plainly he does not stay , if we get a right soaking then maybe , it will be Demania all over again
Batten down the hatches

and for goodness sake have fun

March 7, 2008 at 19:36 #148970Most worrying is the forecast for Monday where it looks as though severe storms are forecast somewhere in Britain – they don’t seem too sure where yet.
March 7, 2008 at 20:24 #148980The Listener lurves storms!
