Looks a doubt based on his Betfair odds tonight.
Seem to remember him being a blot on the handicap at the Festival as well and a certain hairy one’s nap….November 6, 2008 at 16:20 #188332Can someone tell me why i’m so lucky is trading at 90?
16’s top prce – looks like Pipe is trying to show me up
November 6, 2008 at 16:49 #188338Is that on BF? If it is I didn’t take the price at the time and so will be annoyed!!!
November 6, 2008 at 18:17 #188352I would be a shrewdie if I had a bet on at 90’s! As it is i’m just annoyed – although I can;t see BF at work so i’m not sure whether the 16’s is just the bookies playing people.
I don’t think Pipe had many other runners which is why I was so surprised. They would normally have a runner in the PP.
November 6, 2008 at 18:22 #188353Yeah, just thought given he was favourite last year for this race before getting injured that maybe he wasn’t right all season? As Jonjo is the great man Fist always tell us he is hopefully he will get him to show his true form this time round. I remember thinking "this is one to follow" after he beat Mr Pointment two year’s ago, i’ll probably give it one last try. Odd’s are probably down to Jonjo being out of form than the likelyhood of the horse running Carvs?
I don’t bet in the Makeson these days but I do bet in the Hennessy
I am not sure Silverburn is good enough to win this and it could be the PM Denman connection that the bookies are relying on to make the punter take such a short price. They say the trip will suit him better but that’s not enough for me to be rushing out to back him.
I like Imperial Call and with such a low weight he could run them all ragged. Not an easy race to win from the front but his trainer is flying and he will be well fit.

I assume you mean Imperial Commander
November 6, 2008 at 20:43 #188393Hardly think my namesake will run in the Paddy Power at the ripe old age of 19. He’s no Spotthedifference. Would be a good thing off 10st3 against this lot if the race was twelve years ago though.

He is now 18.5 – Definitely missed my opening.

Oops wish it was a young Imperial Call

Moreover, and with the greatest of respect to the jockey, Imperial Commander was just about the last horse in the Twiston-Davies yard on whom Antony Evans was allowed to maintain the ride at the owners’ behest. That will not be the case this season, however, and I shall be interested to see if the gelding goes any better for different handling.

November 7, 2008 at 15:18 #188557At the price would have to be against him- this will be very different to the small field novice chases he’s been contesting. Not sure if he jumps well enough either to win a race like this.

He does look a bit of a small field bully (was going to use the excellent aussie term Flat Track Bully, but someone was bound to point out that he’s won on undulating tracks!), although the loss of the jockey known to some as The Horse Wrestler can only be good news.
November 7, 2008 at 15:52 #188565His jumping certainly let him down over a longer trip when beaten by Joe Lively but I am not too concerned about your small field big field yjrory. He likes to be up there and if he runs in his normal manner then it may not matter if there were 4 horses or 40 horses behind him. He did win an 18 runner as a Novice Hurdler with a very good horse in Nevertika back in 3rd.
I like his form with Over the Creek who is a decent horse. This race could also cut up badly and I doubt if the favourite is in the same class as many of the past winners.
I’m having an EW bet on him. The bookies having PN’s so short I think if anything he is overpriced along with a few others.
November 7, 2008 at 16:24 #188574It’s true that Silverburn is too short, but that doesn’t mean the bookies have overpriced anything which becomes clear when you look at the overround. Plenty of horses have been nibbled at but there have been precious few knock-outs meaning that value is currently almost impossible to find at fixed odds.
Imperial Commander will find dominating a field of in form and decent handicappers rather more difficult than dominating a horse like Jass btw; not that I’m saying he can’t win by any means and he’s certainly a fascinating horse to try to weigh up, but I couldn’t touch a horse with his profile in a race like the Paddy Power. All his wins have come when leading through the early stages and when unable to dominate he has always disappointed. He could make all and it seems he’d have to, but that will be a very difficult task.
November 7, 2008 at 16:53 #188578Imperial Commander has a lot to prove in my opinion.
His jumping has been a bit iffy, and he was firmly put in his place against Joe Lively, when sent off at 5/6.
However, i dont think he is a horse for a longer trip, so the drop back to 2 miles 4/5 will do him the world of good i think.
November 8, 2008 at 03:19 #188687Does anybody have any idea if Jack The Giant is an intended runner?
November 11, 2008 at 02:24 #189128Hi anyone any idea what the max field is for the race? I’m guessing 20 or 22,my fancy is just outside this number!
