I don’t know much about Jump Racing, even less about Novice Chasing over four miles and when you throw amateur riders into the mix I am completely lost, but, for some reason, I strongly fancy Nine de Sivola. It was going well in this race in ’07 when falling three out, has a shrewd (the polite thing to say) trainer and been runner-up in a Scottish and Irish National and an Eidur Chase. I can’t believe it’s such a big price. Aside from the lack of recent form which is not unknown for a Murphy winner, have I missed something? Or is it the lady jockey?
March 11, 2009 at 10:43 #215212I’m in a simialr situation to you Librettist, but I’d say it is definitely not the jockey – she is an asset.
I think it is that Nine De Sivola is not viewed as progressive – he ran a shocker in the London National at Sandown. People "know" what they are going to get with Nine de Sivola – and it is not quite enough to win this…….
well, that is how I see it.March 11, 2009 at 16:03 #215264My grandad is part of the partnership that own this and while he’s gone down there, he’s not expecting a great deal today. He’s not come back the same horse he was, but horses aren’t machines so could surprise us all. I know he’s not high up on Ferdy’s hit list this week of which Kalahari wasn’t in the top 3 either.

I quite like Hennessy for this, despite Carl Llewellyn’s indifferent form, and have backed him at 40/1 and 33/1. He’s run well at Cheltenham on a number of occasions, shouldn’t mind the step up in trip and has a useful amateur on board.
Can’t Buy Time could blow the race apart though, so he’s perhaps worth saving on.
March 11, 2009 at 16:48 #215285In connection with start of this new thread, the trainer seems fairly positive about Nine De Sivola in the Racing Post.
March 11, 2009 at 16:50 #215287Jonjo loves an outsider in this and runs Carnival Town – if I were to have a bet it would be him to place.
March 11, 2009 at 17:21 #215301Good Grief! Niche Market has gone out to 14.5
Wasn’t he about 6-8 ante-post?March 11, 2009 at 17:24 #215305In connection with start of this new thread, the trainer seems fairly positive about Nine De Sivola in the Racing Post.
So the trainer is quite keen but one of the owners isn’t so. That clears that up then!
March 11, 2009 at 18:12 #215331Just backed Fair Point and Tricky Trickster.

McCoy overheard at Chepstow describing this horse a "a piece of sh*t".

He did win that day, by the way.

Not sure what your Grandad’s telling you but the DPRP advice on both Kalahari & Nine de Sivola was "each way"!!!
