That moment when a horse goes from a possible superstar to just another good trier, one despairing critical moment that reveals a fatal flaw.
Remember One Man at the bottom of the hill in the Gold Cup, travelling like a dream, when R Dunwoody suddenly starts shaking the reins and we realised the grey was not actually a machine.
Saw anothr one today; Flemenstar had run and jumped beautifully, then a slower jump and suddenly in trouble from the last fence.Any others?
December 29, 2012 at 10:28 #424648Black Jack Ketchum instantly springs to mind. Looked to be a fine performer and then … dang! Something turned pear-shaped and the horse went from hero to zero. Whether he was overrated is debatable but he just didn’t hit the heights that I thought he was capable of.

If you think that about Flemenstar befair, then you haven’t got a clue.
Aactually enhanced his reputation in my book yesterday. Travelled and jumped brilliantly. Only beaten by stamina. At up to 2m4f (possibly on a soft surface) Flemenstar IS a superstar.Unless this is just another one of those "you have to stay 3 miles to be a superstar" threads.

You’d just as well say name a promising horse who got injured.
