Voy Por Ustedes has had three very hard races from KG, Ascot Chase and then the Ryanair and I just fear that like Cheltenham he may just run a few lbs below his best. He looked terrific in the paddock at Cheltenham but the big time at Ascot may have left its mark there and the Ryanair would hardly have refreshed him.
Nacarat is respected but is a terribly low price for a horse going from handicaps to a Grade1 in a single bound, he is easy to resist at the current price of 7/2.
Howard Johnson was lucky to avoid a ‘schooling in public’ charge after Tidal Bay’s effort in the Ryanair. presumably this was the plan and the very talented Denis O’Regan can put him in front between the last two fences.
Petit Robin is a horse I like a lot but a big time at Newbury was followed by a below par run over Christmas and a hard race behind Master Minded in the VC chase (where he also picked up a small injury), he was the only horse ridden to win against MM in the QM and this cost him 2nd ultimately. Not sure he can be at his best this time.
Schindlers Hunt’s Ryanair run was excellent and track, trip and ground look fine but he needs to reproduce his best again and I feel 3rd or 4th is likely.
I dont really like any of the others except Natal who may well outrun his massive exchange odds of over 200.

Tidal Bay to beat VPU and Petit Robin then.

I’ll be very interested to know just how much ground Tidal Bay made up in the straight at Cheltenham (from anyone who was there).

After the front three crossed the line I expected a yawning gap back to fourth, only to see Tidal Bay flying across the line a few lengths back.

As for today, it’s a very competitve race, arguably the race of the week. I couldn’t back Tidal Bay with any confidence (even though I’ve selected him as my nb in the competition), but I still maintain he’s the best horse in the race and if his jumps as well as he did here last year he’ll take all the beating.

In fact, if his jumping improved you’d fancy him to give any horse in the country a race.

I backed Briareus ew in the Champion Chase and he again looks the value ew bet. The trip and track should suit.

    Get in there!!!! :D

Tough as old boots and he’s given me a far better Aintree than I had Cheltenham.

Have to admit I didn’t think he was going to get to Nacarat then I thought Schindlers Hunt was going to beat him but unlike at Cheltenham Voy Por jumped today and his jump at the last was significant from there he scrapped it out. Lovely horse.

Don’t know what to make of Tidal Bay now though. :?

Fantastic result for Robert Ogden and Barry Simpson following the tragic loss of Exotic Dancer. It won’t make up for their loss but it’ll help a bit and give them a welcome lift.

Gutted for Schindlers Hunt. He deserves to win a big race like this for his consistency down the years and he undoubtedly would have won IMO if he’d jumped better in the straight. I suppose jumping is the name of the game though. :(

I’m chuffed to bits for you mate. He battled all the way to the line and was a joy to watch.

RESPECT!!! You have stood by him through thick and thin

What a bloody good race and to witness it live from the stands was just awesome and makes this sport what it is.

The only negative thing to come out of this is that 80% or so of the crowd will not appreciate the riding performance from Choc as they were to busy looking at the sodding Matalan Fashion Show with Jeff Banks.

But us proper fans know top quality when we see it and their we saw a great ride that will be seen for many years and good for Sir Robert Ogden after what happened on Thursday.

A super ride indeed. Voy Por looked not likely to win there and it was a brave effort to hold off Schindlers Hunt. I suspect it was a similar effort to his one in the Ryan Air – a bit below his best we saw at Ascot. Disappointing effort by Tidal Bay, who looked to be going well but faded. Not what we hoped.

Agree with that completely. Don’t know where they will go with Tidal Bay from here?

Wylie should think about putting his eggs in a few different baskets although I fear it may be too late for Tidal Bay.. He seems to be going the same way as My way de solzen which is unfortunate as he is a huge talent.
