Ah! Spring, and a young man’s fancy turns towards the first leg of the Spring Double.
Didn’t Sceptre carry 9-10 to victory, before she ran in both Guineas? (If it ain’t true, don’t tell me, I rather like the idea.)
[edit: sorry, I couldn’t resist the temptation – she carried 6-7 and was beaten a Head. I also came across this “By the time his horses were ready to start their sophomore
campaigns, Sievier was badly in debt again, and needed to sell Sceptre or her stablemate, …” We need to give those Americans a good kicking. Oh I forgot, we did that at Santa Anita.]Anyway, 3yos aren’t allowed, and that has been the case for several years.
Has anyone ever done a double on the Spring Double, and got it up? Does anyone ever have a bet on the Spring Double, or is it just one of those bookmaking myths?
Has anyone ever done a double on the Autumn Double (Cambridgeshire & Cesarewitch) and got it up?
There will be several of you who won’t be looking at this race until the Draw has been made, but where is the fun in that? Ante-post tickets keep me warm in bed at night (Blue Bajan £48 @ 101 – that’s for the CH, but I suppose he could go for the Lincoln as well!).
I’ve found the winner of the Lincoln a couple of times by the simple expedient of watching the valuable races held at Wolverhampton a few weeks earlier.
Anyway, creating this thread will incite me to become acquainted with last season’s form.
December 29, 2008 at 13:10 #200101Geezus Gerald you are keen mate..Not knocking you for it as you bring life to a forum and it’s better than talking about the size of the beer tents at Cartmel.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t have the foggiest idea what is likely to run in the Lincoln at this time but that will change nearer the time.
John Quinn trains at Bellwood Cottages in Settrington but he also rents the famous Highfield Stables in Malton. There’s a touch of the Harry Potters going on at Highfield, I reckon it’s haunted
6 winners of the Lincoln have come out of there including Blythe Knight.Hopefully we will see another winner of the race conjured up this coming season..
December 29, 2008 at 15:49 #200148This thread is an abberation, and should be deleted by the Mods.
December 29, 2008 at 16:26 #200165Abberation…………..that’s very mild for you, Grass!

December 29, 2008 at 17:06 #200176Thank you Gerald – can’t wait for the Lincoln!
December 29, 2008 at 17:19 #200182Pretty difficult without any entries but an unexposed 4yo is usually the order of the day and something like Whistledownwind could be interesting. Okay a run in the Leger isn’t the usual prep for a Lincoln winner but it’s taken connections a long time to get this horse right. A mile should be just up his street based on his last run at Lingfield and his 2-y-o win suggests he handles a bit of cut.
December 29, 2008 at 21:52 #200257Gerald, i was lucky enough to achieve the "Autumn Double" a couple of years ago with "Formal Decree" at 16/1 and "Detroit City" at 16/1
For next years "Lincoln" i would be interested in B, Hills "Zaahid" rated
96 he missed the cut last year when very well fancied, but dont tell
"Grasshopper" who seems to be Anti Ante-post!December 29, 2008 at 22:46 #200263No, he’s just anti-flat.
December 29, 2008 at 22:47 #200265"By the time his horses were ready to start their sophomore
campaigns, Sievier was badly in debt again, and needed to sell Sceptre or her stablemate,Nice archaic word that, still used regularly in the USA for college students
Means ‘second year’ so it refers to Sceptre’s 3yo campaign

GW, I knew that if anyone had done it, then it would be you! Well done.
Let’s see, 17 squared is . .

Fists, I ain’t expecting anyone to be thinking about the Lincoln, or naming the winner now. I couldn’t sleep, and writing it helped pass the time.
That’s why I asked the questions about the Spring and Autumn Doubles, because I thought a couple of people might have something to say.
I’m disappointed in you though . . . I was expecting you to be the one to make a comment about the AP vouchers keeping me warm at night; either something saucy, or that it would be cheaper to buy an electric blanket.

The Ante-post "Mastercraftsman" me!December 30, 2008 at 04:09 #200324Gerald,
The Ante-post "Mastercraftsman" me!I’ve just used my favourite new toy on him. (Pedigree Query).
Miler, 10 furlongs max.
I suppose sometimes in the next couple of weeks, I’ll work through the fields for the first four Classics.
I can also see what you mean about Rip Van Winkle, [edited – talking bull.]
December 30, 2008 at 04:17 #200326Defineately not a sprinter! Does your new toy tell you how far he will win the 2000gns Gerald?

To be honest, I wasn’t too struck with the (male) 2yos, though I wasn’t paying much particular attention at the time. That’s part of the reason why I’m keen on Naaqoos. Don’t ask me anymore questions until I’ve studied the form – I don’t want to embarrass myself and expose my ignorance. Part of the bloody problem is that I never get to see the first couple of runs of the Irish horses.

By a long way I hope as he’ll be my main bet come race time

Okay, this one isn’t a dog – Timeform likes him, but he too is making his AW debut. Trainer knows what he is doing on the AW. 525,000gns 26Sep06, 65,000gns 28Oct08. I’ll make him my 22/1 ante-post favourite for the Lincoln.Actually, as he’s been bought by an Arab, maybe he’ll spend spring in Dubai?
