Everyones favourite ‘spring *cough cough only trains horses for Cheltenham* trainer’ will no doubt come flying back into form once we hit March, but which horses do you guys think will win (or at least go close) at the festival?
Seen a few of his French recruits flop in recent weeks, wouldn’t be surprised if they’re being aimed at the handicaps, he seems to like the Coral Handicap so will more than likely have a few there.
I’m sure Holywell will run a big race but the real question mark for me is More of That, how much will the injury hinder him? Personally I’ll be backing him for the World Hurdle because if anyones a sly trainer then it’s our boy Jonjo!
Nearly forgot, Taquin Du Suil will run a huge race in the Ryanair, not sure why JJ messed around with the 3m trip as he always knew Holywell would be his big Gold Cup hope and Taquin has too much speed for that anyway. I’ll definitely be backing Taquin.
Are there any more under the radar horses that JJ has in his locker ready to unleash for the festival? Or will we not know which horses are going there from his brigade until closer to March (and I’m talking about the handicap runners).
February 3, 2015 at 13:19 #503958I don’t see why there has to be any ‘slyness’ or plotting when it comes to the championship races.
obviously, the same can’t be said about the handicaps

Only sly in the sense of horses running below form until the big day. This is probably due to not wanting to peak them too soon or risk having them get injured during the season as I’d imagine horses are more prone to injury when in peak fitness, or at least are more likely to get injured during the process of getting them to peak fitness.
It wasn’t really a dig at JJ, more of an assessment
February 3, 2015 at 14:39 #503979I can believe the excuse that there has been a bug in the yard. Jonjo usually wins a steady stream of races throughout the year, even if his biggest successes have come at Cheltenham and Aintree.
It seems downright daft to ignore the attractive prize money being dished out in 4-10 runner ‘trials’ throughout the winter for a single tilt at the biggest and most competitive races.
February 3, 2015 at 14:59 #503983Merry King is only up 4lbs for an excellent 3rd in the Hennessy when a lot of Jonjo’s weren’t running their best….Form of that race is looking very strong with Many Clouds…Houblon….Djakadam…Unioniste….Smad Place…..Annaciotty and Le Reve all running very well on subsequent starts….yard won race with Holywell (145) last year so fancy a bold showing from Merry King (142) this year…providing it goes there.. .also slight worry over only ever run at Cheltenham being a poor one….backed it at 16’s anyqay…

Good shout. Just wonder whether he’ll have the toe round the old course as he’s often in the frame without nailing a big prize.
February 4, 2015 at 20:48 #504137Taquin will need to go well this weekend but Jonjo has an excellent back up in this race in the form of Johns Spirit who will jump round sat at the back and slowly join in and charge up the hill like he always does. Hopefully AP will ride Taquin allowing Richie Mc to keep the ride as he knows this improver inside out. At 12s I firmly believe he is a massive EW bet
