Sorry Zarks, I’d like to add that that was after you left your trends on the thread and led me to look more extensively into it.
Cheers bud
February 16, 2012 at 23:59 #391776Davy Russell said he thinks Minsk has been lame all season.
February 17, 2012 at 00:13 #391787Andrew Lynch put up Darroun as a bit of value.
Shark said Minsk is a banker.
Shadow Catcher and Darroun were mentioned favourably.
Robbie Power said Grumeti best of the British.
February 17, 2012 at 01:53 #391803Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning! Extremely flippant comments…
This is the man who said he’d hate to own Silviniaco Conti
February 17, 2012 at 02:52 #391806Yeah I stand by that comment as well. Obviously I’d have loved having him for the first half of his career, but it’s been downhill recently. He’ll be really exposed at Aintree or maybe even Cheltenham.
Come on, look at Nicholls’ comments about him. He’ll run him in the RSA if Grands Crus doesn’t run – what does that tell you? Nicholls said on twitter the other week that Silviniaco Conti is a Gold Cup horse for next year. But he doesn’t want to take on Grands Crus in the RSA. Pffffft, finished.
I’d love to own Quel Esprit right now though, purely from a tactical viewpoint. Imagine how much fun and how many headaches you could get trying to get another win from this horse. Would be like playing Football Manager with a newly-promoted team in the Premiership, trying to get a win against one of the top 6.
Skip the Festival and go for the Guinness Gold Cup? Sizing Europe will turn up in that, maybe even Kauto Star and probably Quito de la Roque too.
What about the Betfair Bowl at Aintree instead? Long Run might turn up, maybe Grands Crus.
Be resigned to getting beaten in one of those and look forward to next season with the James Nicholson or Lexus? Oh, Weapon’s Amnesty back from injury, Bog Warrior stepping up in trip, maybe Rubi Light too and Last Instalment back as well.
He’d be a bloody nightmare right now. I’d hate to be Quel Esprit’s owner or even Willie Mullins, trying to find a race for him. Best thing for him I think is the National, I just can’t see what else there is.

And now?
Just looking at some of these ratings handed out today, some horses are going to be given big reputations based on very little substance. I’m mainly looking at Balder Succes. He beat a horse over 2m who was seen over 2m 5f and 2m 4f in his 2 previous runs over hurdles. He’s also been given a topspeed rating of just 79. Not good. He put in a 102 rating on his debut, but that’s still just not good enough for the Triumph.
Une Artiste is another who’ll probably gain a reputation as ‘Henderson’s late Triumph horse’, but the performance was not a good one and worth little more than Lyvius’ run the other day. A topspeed rating of just 81.
February 18, 2012 at 18:59 #392297I think they consider Balder Success a very very good prospect, but all the vibes suggest that they aren’t that keen on going to Cheltenham. I’d be relatively suprised if they ran him in either race he’s entered given the stable has two viable candidates for both already.
He’s basically hacked up in 3 slowly run races. The 1st was a weak race at Plumpton, the 2nd just a gallop practice and the 3rd he’s just had way too much speed for some solid horses who simply need further.
Of the Henderson’s horses i’ve seen i can’t say im particularly excited by either. Both had to work pretty hard to win and would have to improve considerably. The Nicholls pair im not that excited about either, given i think Pearl Swan won’t be able to lay up and Dildar will have to improve alot. Can’t have Ranjan either as i don’t think he’s good enough.
Can’t have Baby Mix or any of the Irish (Minsk hasn’t run yet so i’ll wait for that)
So it leaves us with Grumeti and Sadler’s Risk. I assume Sadler’s Risk goes for the adonis, where he might meet Dildar and any other lurking Henderson horse that we have yet to see. Given Grumeti jumps very well, travels well and has the form, i think he’s a great bet. His price will only shorten IMO. I know Zarks trashed Ted Spread, but considering how far he beat him and his susbsequent win, it makes Grumeti look really solid.
February 18, 2012 at 19:11 #392301Completely agree. I think he’d struggle in 4 of the last 5 Triumphs, but the competition this year at this stage is minimal.
February 19, 2012 at 02:07 #392380I need Dildar to prove Zarks and everyone else wrong.
The Adonis should be veeeeery interesting……………
Apparently everyone on the Morning Line was buzzing up Minsk.
February 20, 2012 at 21:46 #392688I watched a re run of Balder Success at Ascot today and have to say that I was rather impressed with it at face value. Thought he jumped superbly and obviously won pretty easily. However, looking through his form, you probably wouldn’t say he had an obvious chance in either the Triumph or the Supreme, both on what he’s beaten and the times he’s done it in.
I would say though that he’s likely to appreciate a bit of better ground that he’s raced on thus far.
Think King could have a good festival with novices
February 20, 2012 at 21:55 #392690In relation to the other races on the card, Balder Succes and Royal Guardsman posted, by far, the 2 slowest times. Slow slow slow.
February 20, 2012 at 22:26 #392694Surprised if Une Artiste is Henderson’s main hope. Had heard there was another in the yard far better. Obviously had a problem or not ready
Une Artiste posted a much slower time at Pau than Molotof, who was beaten in the Adonis last year.
February 20, 2012 at 22:51 #392698Would never back a filly anyway. Fast lane to the poor house.
British bred horses have a terrible record so Grumeti is out for me, also still don’t trust him after a race i watched at sandown last year. By far the classiest but no bottle. Showed it again with Pearl Swan and I expect him to be done again at the festival.
Sadlers ran an rpr of 124 the same as detroit city in early jan and Hobbs is taking a similar tyoe of build up.I am expecting a bit of improvement and sharper jumping.
Minsk is interesting but is surely a risk until he jumps.
Adonis will tell us a lot. Love the race.
February 20, 2012 at 23:16 #392702Apparently Grumeti won’t be running in the Adonis.
February 21, 2012 at 14:17 #392791The Urbain De Sivola bubble just popped.
February 21, 2012 at 15:24 #392804I never realised there was a bubble. More of a fart.
February 21, 2012 at 21:38 #392900Grumeti still the one I like a lot. Can see Hobbs’ horse going well. Not sure about Lyvius tbh but interested in Une Artiste if she has another run soon. I don’t know why but I like something about her and feel she will come on a lot for the run at the weekend. Dildar would be the same if he wasn’t terribly overhyped and underpriced..
