Grumeti. THE Triumph weekend has passed, the form has been studied and the trends have been checked. Grumeti.
Absolutely nailed.
Hard to see past. Has the King stable said whether they do intend to run Balder Success?
Alan King stable tour in this morning’s RP would indicate so but they also come across pretty confident he’d be more suited to soft ground.

Aintree has been mooted both in the press and apparently at various Previews.
March 5, 2012 at 11:34 #394876starting to like shadow catcher more and more. loved the way he travelled and jumped last time.
looks a wide-open triumph and really nothing stands out, i’m not a great fan of the english horses.
think this horse will thrive with the spring sun on his back

Thanks J17star.
I thought he had plenty of likely improvement in him, perhaps PFN doesn’t fancy Cheltenham for only his second run.March 5, 2012 at 17:59 #394917starting to like shadow catcher more and more. loved the way he travelled and jumped last time.

Me too, took the 20’s last week which has long gone.
March 5, 2012 at 19:47 #394936glad to see i’m not alone
just think the english year old hurdlers are very ordinary, can anyone honestly say theres a triumph hurdle candidate from this land thats really got the wow factor? It just seems a very poor year.
I suppose you could say the same about the irish lot as well, but my theory is when the home challenge looks weak you always look to ireland. you only have to look at how they dominated the festival last year.
March 6, 2012 at 12:25 #394990Grumeti has had a minor setback. From the Sporting Life:
GRUMETI SUFFERS MINOR SETBACK
JCB Triumph Hurdle favourite Grumeti has suffered a minor setback, but connections fully expect him to make the line-up next week. The Alan King-trained juvenile has won three of his four outings, but the former Michael Bell inmate was lame on Tuesday morning.
"He’s lame today but Alan fully expects it clear up with the next two days," said Iain Turner, racing manager to owner Max McNeil.
"It’s something very minor. If it had happened next Tuesday we’d be a bit worried, but we expect him to be back working by the end of the week.
"He’s been fine for so long it’s frustrating this has happened now, but that’s racing.
"What with it being so close to the Festival, we thought it best to let everybody know."

Must be worrying despite what King said about him being ok in 24 hours. Slightly less confident about backing him now.
"What with it being so close to the Festival, we thought it best to let everybody know."
Take note Mr Nicholls!
March 7, 2012 at 11:05 #395131I believe Dodging Bullets is heading for the Triumph and Ruby has said he will struggle to make a choice between the 3 they have running!
For me I hope he selects Pearl Swan IF he stays in this race!
March 8, 2012 at 01:17 #395280This time last week I was all over Grumeti. Since then he was found to be lame, which isn’t the greatest festival prep, despite Alan King claiming he’ll be fine.
This is one of these situations, you believe the trainer, but can’t help but feel he can’t be 100% right come race day.
This has coincided with a massive recent interest of mine in Sadler’s Risk, fully open to improvement since the Adonis and far more likely to suit Cheltenham. I’ve read several articles surrounding Hobbs’ festival hopes, and in each he seems overwhelmingly bullish about his chances.
I don’t know which way to turn now. I may have to back both just to cover myself!

Surely Pricewise has taken all the value in it? On a PaddyPower Audio interview gave a nice mention to Pearl Swan, will probably choose that.
March 16, 2012 at 12:13 #397185I believe two horses have potential to be a lot better than the rest. Baby Mix of the British trained and Shadow Catcher of the Irish.
Baby Mix could be shorter in the betting but for an injury picked up in the Pearl Swan/Grumeti race. Mightily impressive on first Cheltenham run (backed him ante-post after that). And showed an excellent turn of foot at Kempton before idling. Only negative is he’s got a slightly high head carriage and straight tail; suggesting a bit of temperament / moody.
Shadow Catcher went for home too soon last time, so excuses there. Made mistakes when it mattered. Has plenty of pace and should be suited by conditions. Just hope Carberry can judge the pace and Shadow Catcher doesn’t get the MeadeCarberry disease of finding nowt.
Grumeti might be a Katchit type. Seems genuine and a trier. Did all that could be expected last time. Convinced only "beaten" by Pearl Swan because of the bump and… more importantly the fast pace suited the Nicholls horse coming from the back. If it is a scrap Grumeti could come out on top.
Hopefully Urbain De Sivola will be able to get a good early position. Doesn’t have much experience (didn’t run on the flat). Impressed me earlier in the year at Newbury, making most. Only dead-heated at Taunton almost three months later. Might have needed it. Nick Williams isn’t in great form but For Non Stop ran well enough yesterday. Looks an outsider with a real chance.
Value Is EverythingMarch 16, 2012 at 13:37 #397206Absolute joke of a result. Form is worthless.
March 16, 2012 at 13:38 #397207Bookies off to a flyer!

On the contrary, all hail the Northern form. Nice to see winning from at Sedgefield and Cartmel taken forward to the Festival with success. Try telling connections of Countrywide Flame that it was a ‘joke of a result’ and I predict a short reply ending in ‘off’!
It’s not all about big stables and the big courses.

March 16, 2012 at 13:46 #397211The Juvenile form has been all over the place throughout the season so why are people surprised that the falsely priced unexposed horses failed to deliver.
The winner has had 22 runs thus far and flat bred. Mental toughness won the day. -
