Despite having the stayers hurdle at his mercy. Willie Mullins is planning a novice chase campaign for Gaelic Warrior. The horse they all laughed at when getting turned over off 126 is the future Gold Cup winner.

What odds are Nathbet offering that Garlic Bread wins a Gold Cup?

It is a very poor decision by Mullins.

The fact I have 10/1 for the Stayers Hurdle has not influenced my opinion in any way…

    Hangs right jumps right

    Punchestown yes
    Cheltenham no

If he’s a good jumper he could win the king george

He’d be exhausted 2f out in the gold cup after hanging for 3 miles

Yeah… I’ve had multiple bets on the stayers myself

Mullins must rate his chances of the end game (Gold Cup) to turn down a favourites chance in the stayers

He is still young. Would one more season over hurdles have done any harm?

Perhaps Mullins does see him as a Gold Cup horse and wants him to have his novice season now, figuring that Galopin Des Champs may only have one more peak season left in him?

Although I agree with FF. Gaelic Warrior has never won at Cheltenham and looks far better going right handed.

He got beat by a horse at Cheltenham that is rated a better chance than State Man for the Champion Hurdle.

    Got demolished by him yes

What would’ve happened going right handed?

Save your gold cup money, back him for the 2024 King george

With the john durkan finally being moved earlier in the calender I’d imagine Willie will start sending more of his good ones over

I’m sure rich ricci has unfinished business after Vautour got chinned by cue card (in one of the best races of all time)

He took a massive step forward from the previous year and is young enough to do it again

Galopin Des Champs wasn’t supposed to get the Gold Cup trip
GDC was jumping to boldly, running to enthusiastically etc

I wouldn’t write off Gaelic Warrior just yet. The easy route would be to run in the stayers. Mullins sees something in this horse

Lots of talk about Mullins seeing this and that in the horse but could it be that Ricci wants him going chasing? He doesn’t have many/any half decent chasers.

Ricci is a complete nut job but is no fool and he is wise enough to send his horses to Mullins.
I maybe wrong and I often am but I wouldn’t get involved in where my horses run when you have the best in the business looking after them.

The impression I get is that Willie hears what his owners, Patrick etc have to say about the horses

Then does what he wants to do regardless

And can’t think of many times he was wrong

I’d imagine if an owner started trying to dictate where the horses go he’d quite happily offer the owners the chance to move the horses to a different yard.

You don’t send horses to the best trainer in the world and not trust his judgement

I agree with all the thoughts regarding him hanging when running at Cheltenham but I’m going to throw a spanner in the works. He was second twice, raw the first time but he beat 19 other runners in that Boodles and second again last season in a G1 beating all other 8 horses apart from IMPAIRE ET PASSE. Mullins quote from that race – “he lost his earplugs on the way to the start, he’s a 3 miler and he will be a big strong chaser down the line”. Racing Post analysis stated that he is built like a chaser.

My initial thoughts were that jumping a fence and stepping up in distance, where things won’t be happening so quickly for him will be the making of him. First part achieved when stepped up to 3 at Punchestown. Another year older and looks a leading player come March.

I went straight in and have some lovely tasty prices on the Browns Advisory, when all this talk was bantered around about the Stayers I topped up at William Hill “To win any race” at 7/2. Glad I kept the faith.

To that point are we missing the elephant in the room?

IMPAIRE ET PASSE to avoid CH and step up from 2:5 when he won the Ballymore to the Stayers now that GW apparently goes chasing?

What does this say about GDC if he’s already looking for another GC horse

“What does this say about GDC if he’s already looking for another GC horse”

Nothing really in my opinion, Mullins has a conveyor belt of talent year after year and he is the best in the business, constantly evaluating his horses and moving them onto their best discipline whether that be hurdles over 2 or a staying chaser over 3.

He has a multitude of owners who trust him regardless and us punters who try and second guess where he will place his horses come the big festivals. Social media sites like on YouTube will have their opinions by enthusiasts of the game like us or sponsored content by bookmakers that I personally take with a pinch of salt,

God forbid that GDC stepped on a stone a week leading up to the GC. he would have nothing to go to war with. I really don’t blame Mullins and all trainers to be constantly improving and developing their horses and hopefully find one to become the next big thing or win a championship race they thought wasn’t possible previously….

I wonder which race Mullins will choose for Gaelic Warrior? Everyone assumed Galopin Des Champs would be in the Brown Advisory but he ran in the Turners instead.
